Mistress' Family Challenges Edwards to Take DNA Test
ABC News ^ | Aug. 9, 2008 | By RHONDA SCHWARTZ and BRIAN ROSS

The family of John Edwards' former mistress, Rielle Hunter, is challenging the former senator to take a DNA paternity test after his claim that he did not father Hunter's six-month old child.

In the first reaction from Hunter's family, her younger sister Melissa told ABC News that Edwards should immediately follow through on his pledge to take a paternity test.

"I would challenge him to do so," the sister said. "Somebody must stand up and defend my sister," she said. "I wish that those involved would refrain from bad-mouthing my sister."

In his interview with ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff acknowledging the affair, Edwards said he knew the child was not his because of "the timing" of the pregnancy and the affair.

"I would welcome participating in a paternity test," Edwards said. "I'm only one side of the test, but I'm happy to participate in one."

Hunter left her Santa Barbara home earlier this week in advance of Edwards' ABC News interview.

I got a snippet of David (traitor) Gergen’s reaction on CNN about it and he really blasted Edwards. He called attention to something everyone is ignoring by pointing out that Edwards was having this affair while campaigning for president, knowing full well that he was taking the chance of blowing up the party if he would have been the nominee and this news hit just like it has.

Gergen asked the question: Can you imagine for a moment what would happen if John Edwards were the dem nominee? He was pointing out that Edwards’ selfishness and hypocrisy could have irreparably harmed the party.

If only he were the nominee!!!

The fact is, even if he does agree to a DNA test I wouldn’t believe the results unless I personally witnessed the entire procedure, including the uninterrupted chain of custody of the samples.

If she's receiving competent legal advice then this will all be done.

There is spermicide in the reservoir tip of the prophylactic. She couldn’t have banked the ejaculate.

The current nominee, Obama, has even worse defects!! And we ought to be paying increasing attention to them. I want to know a lot more about the recent departure of his “Muslim liason.”

The left must really be piling on to her? I don’t feel bad for her, at 42yo a woman should know that sleeping with a married guy isn’t a good thing. Of course if she was looking for a meal ticket she picked a fine one. :) I say take the test now or slink away and never grace our TV screens again!

What I don’t understand is if the affair ended in 2006 what was he doing with her in the hotel just a couple of weeks ago? Did he just stop by for coffee and cake to say, “hey, hows tricks?” His and sadly his wife’s explanations just don’t cut the smell test.

First he betrays his wife and their children by creating another family, then he betrays his second family by express repudiation. He has, by Bill Clinton’s standards, a perfect score. Remember when Clinton blamed his philandering on his deceased mother? It gave him a score of 10 by defiling his marriage and fatherhoood by infidelity, and then defiling his dead mother’s image by deflecting his character flaws to her; leaving no woman in his life unbetrayed. I think Edwards is taking a serious run at unseating the Master of Rat Bastard-dom of the second millenium. You’ve come a long way, Grasshopper.

But what if she doesn’t want the tests?

Her family may not be speaking on her behalf.
