The family of John Edwards' former mistress, Rielle Hunter, is challenging the former senator to take a DNA paternity test after his claim that he did not father Hunter's six-month old child.
In the first reaction from Hunter's family, her younger sister Melissa told ABC News that Edwards should immediately follow through on his pledge to take a paternity test.
"I would challenge him to do so," the sister said. "Somebody must stand up and defend my sister," she said. "I wish that those involved would refrain from bad-mouthing my sister."
In his interview with ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff acknowledging the affair, Edwards said he knew the child was not his because of "the timing" of the pregnancy and the affair.
"I would welcome participating in a paternity test," Edwards said. "I'm only one side of the test, but I'm happy to participate in one."
Hunter left her Santa Barbara home earlier this week in advance of Edwards' ABC News interview.

I'd like to see it suck all the air out of the press coverage of the Democrat Convention.
But that timing was probably well thought out by the Enquirerer already.

Edwards made a big mistake when he trashed the Enquirerer back in October - it was like flashing a red cape in front of a charging bull - all he did was get them P.O.'d and delay the day of reckoning.
The hypocritical Edwards' are the Gary Hart's of the 2000's:
Lee Hart (Mrs. Gary Hart) -- “I know Gary better than anyone else, and when Gary says nothing happened, nothing happened.”
Gary Hart -- "Follow me around. I don't care. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'd be very bored."
Elizabeth Edwards -- "John was always there by my side. I cannot say enough about what a great husband he has been through all of this. John and I are so completely connected. There is nothing closer than where we are now."
John Edwards -- "If we want to live in a moral, honest just America and if we want to live in a moral and just world, we can't wait for somebody else to do it. We have to do it."
John Edwards -- "I don't talk about these tabloids. They're tabloid trash and just full of lies."
One of Edwards’ campaign aides named Andrew Young claimed the child early on and Mom did not dispute that to my knowledge. I thought they were talking about the former UN Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta because no media talking heads bothered to say, “No, not THAT Andrew but the other Andrew Young” but some dweeb who takes spears for Suilk Pony
I think he meant the child is the other side. You need dad and baby to do a DNA test.
Now we have an angry sister and parents! This thing ain’t over by a long-shot!

She’s a slut and a homewrecker, knew he was married and had a dying wife on top of that.
Edwards is a cheat and a liar who cheats on his dying wife.
Why defend either of them? They are both despicable.

Any guy, particularly a man of property and position who doesn’t take responsibility for birth control is a fool.
Here he has relations with a fully mature woman, not a teeny bopper, and surprise, surprise she gets pregnant. The knucklehead didn’t figure that has a high profile guy of wealth and status a woman would not want to hook a paycheck and status.
He is a weak character and a fool. She is a con artist. It’s the oldest trick in the book. Woman hooks married man of wealth and status and just coincidently somehow the wife gets the heads up. Step 2, the wife kicks him out. Step 3 mistress becomes wife #2 and moves into the lifestyle. Wife #1 finds herself as a single parent fighting for support and in a significantly lower tax bracket.
The wife should kick Edwards and the mistress’s azzes and tell the mistress she will have to fight for the check.
This wasn't Reille's first rodeo. This girl is sleazier because of her age/wisdom.
