IMMIGRANT VOTE SNUB (JUDGE: national security trumps immigrants' speedy naturalization)
NY POST ^ | August 8, 2008 | JENNIFER FERMINO

National security trumps an immigrant's right to a speedy naturalization process, a Manhattan federal judge ruled yesterday......a group of New Yorkers who hoped to vote in this fall's election sued to force approval of backlogged citizenship applications in time for Election Day. Judge Lawrence McKenna dismissed the lawsuit, filed by the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund; the Judge said he couldn't authorize the FBI to hurry "name checks" - a comprehensive vetting process expanded after 9/11.

AND IN A RELATED DEVELOPMENT July 21, 2006 Two held in bust of bogus ID operation Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, authorities said. The two men turned a New Jersey hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local identity broker.

They were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses for any state in the US, passports and resident alien cards, said state police. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a hotel parking lot. Authorities wouldn't identify the hotel by name for fear it would spark retribution.

The Drug Interdiction Task Force, regularly runs checks. The brothers were followed to an office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the brothers to a storage facility in Secaucus, where they loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout. Authorities approached them when they returned to the hotel and questioned them separately. The brothers consented to a search. Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs.

All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street. Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a fake document broker for a shipment of 500 Social Security cards.

Kudos to Judge McKenna! It is rare enough to see common sense out of a NY court these days.

Lawrence M. McKenna was nominated to the bench by George H. W. Bush on January 24, 1990. Thank you President Bush.

I also think the Judge is getting the “message” that Americans are dead set against privileges for illegals.

Trying to force a Naturalization process just so people can vote sounds like border-line voter fraud to me.

Does anyone else remember Vice President Al Gore's Citizenship USA program?

From 2001

"The investigation into INS shenanigans began with a May 1996 report in the Washington Times about an INS whistleblower who criticized the acceleration of the naturalization process under Clinton-Gore. It quoted other INS employees who revealed the existence of a program known as Citizenship USA, and questioned the motives behind it.

"Citizenship USA was an initiative of Vice President Al Gore that was ostensibly part of his National Performance Review to "reinvent" government. Internal White House memos, obtained by the House Judiciary Committee in 1997, showed that the vice president was well aware that the effort could be perceived as a "pro-Democrat voter mill."

On March 28, 1996, White House aide Doug Farbrother e-mailed Gore detailing his efforts to get INS to waive fingerprinting and background checks "to make me confident they could produce a million new citizens before Election Day."

Gore then wrote Clinton: "You asked us to expedite the naturalization of nearly a million legal aliens who have applied to become citizens." The risk, Gore warned, was that "we might be publicly criticized for running a pro-Democrat voter mill and even risk having Congress stop us."

Congress did complain -- but only after the election.

In response to those complaints, the Joint Management Division of the Department of Justice hired KPMG Peat Marwick to review the Citizenship USA program, which ran from Aug. 31, 1995 through Sept. 30, 1996. They found that of the 1,049,867 aliens naturalized under the program, INS never did fingerprint checks on 180,000 persons.

"Applicants who were ineligible because of criminal records, or because they fraudulently obtained green cards, were granted citizenship because the INS was moving too fast to check their records," says Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, who chaired the House Judiciary subcommittee hearing on the IG report last September.

In addition to those 180,000, Smith said, "more than 80,000 aliens had fingerprint checks that generated criminal records, but they were naturalized anyway."

Thanks for the details.

My understanding is Clinton actually used a “formula” that calculated so many Dem votes per numbers of illegals let in.

Forcing Naturalization so people can vote IS border-line voter fraud.

Good reminder! Thanks.

Is it just me or does anyone else get the impression that when the Democrats lose, there is voter suppression, voter fraud or stolen elections. When they win, however, the process worked perfectly and voter fraud is non-existant?

"....Americans are dead set against privileges for illegals."

These are not illegals.

The truth of the matter is that 99% of those who profess to oppose only illegals, are actually opposed to legal immigration.

A few good judges left out there!

Thats OK, we are to applaud anyway because they were legal and everyone knows there's no such thing as an undesirable immigrant.

Unfortunately, he considers not having a 'come one, come all' attitude towards immigration some sort of devastating, final word indictment.

'LOL' is more appropriate.
