The FBI has launched a review of the violent law enforcement raid of the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo in Prince George's County last week that resulted in the deaths of the family's two dogs.
The agency has begun "reviewing the events that occurred at Mr. Calvo's residence," said Richard J. Wolf, spokesman for the FBI in Baltimore, which has jurisdiction over federal civil rights investigations in Maryland.

Courts across the country in recent years have ruled that it is almost always unacceptable for police to kill pets in the course of searching a home. Cases in three federal circuits have found that killing pets amounts to unreasonable seizure.

Optimistic, aren't you. Seems like the groupies are slow to jump in today. How long to get a bingo on the list?
1. It's a tough job and stressful, so give them a break
2. They just want to go home to their families at night, so they can't take any chances.
3. You would take the word of some guy getting drugs mailed to him over the word of a fine police officer?
4. You might criticize, but you would call the cops in a split second if someone was breaking into your house.
5. The guy probably sent his dogs to attack the cops, he is lucky he didn't get shot himself.
Which now, for some bizarre reason, is a federal crime.
Well, especially when state agents should be LESS protected by the law than those they serve. Serve, remember?
In Pee Gee County, Law enforcement Is provided by County Police Department, the Sherrif’s office, and many cities / towns have local forces.
County is the Prime force in the more populated areas, where the Sherrif usually is prime for the more rural area. Both have jursidiction county wide. County police are responsible for Major Crime, and run the Crime Lab.
When I graduated from high school in the early 80’s, the 3 biggest bullies had been recruited for the County Force...
In the mean time, read the various posts of this story. These are not the "To protect and serve" variety of law enforcement we once looked up to and turned to when we needed help. These are the dangerous, out of control Nazi enforcer type who need to be in jail.
Uh, GBA, I think he was being sarcastic
I certainly hope so.
After re-reading your post, I see that I was wrong in my post to you and I apologize for slamming you like that. This story has me needing meds.
Militarization of police forces ping.
me too.
You obviously didn’t read the story.
Considering the Famous Butt Incompetents allowed an FBI agent to shoot an unarmed 16 year old in the face for trying to unbuckle his seatbelt after the armed agent screamed at him to get out of the car...well, I expect nothing but a coverup. Let’s not forget Ruby Ridge.
My apologies. I just belatedly caught the satire in your post.
I guess I was a little too subtle after a long week of work :)
No, your post was fine. I’ve just been tangling the past few days with a couple of the LEO groupies you mentioned, and jumped to the conclusion that you were another one of them, without really thinking about what you were saying.
2.I agree, so they shouldn’t be causing citizens to automatically wonder if they really ARE the police, not some home invasion squad....
3. The “some guy” happened to be known as the mayor of a local town. Getting something mailed to you is not a crime-especially if you did not arrange it. Remember #1 above? The US Constitution?
4. No, I would defend my family first, calling 911 when either I or my wife could do so w/o putting anyone at risk. My right to life and that of my family is paramount in the type of situation you describe. Remember, LEOs do not have to respond to any specific 911 call, only in general (SCOTUS decision back in the 70’s)and response time varies from a few minutes to hours....
5. Maybe the dogs were simply doing what loyal dogs do.... Suggesting that the Mayor set his dogs on the cops is purely speculation and w/o merit.
All this being said, I respect and support my local LEOs-they know me and I know most of them, we shoot together on occasion and drink coffee some mornings (I swore off donuts long ago...).
See post 59 - I think I caught a few people off guard. Too close to the way the groupies post, I guess.
