Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:
Tipping Point?
Some Democrats are saying John Edwards needs to publicly address stories in the National Enquirer that he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her child. The Charlotte Observer reports that if the former Democratic presidential candidate fails to provide a sufficient response, party officials may not ask him to speak at the Democratic convention in Denver later this month.
Former North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Don Fowler says, "If there is not an explanation that's satisfactory, acceptable and meets high moral standards, the answer is 'no,' he would not be a prime candidate to make a major address to the convention."
And Gary Pearce, who ran Edwards' 1998 Senate campaign says, "It's clearly getting ready to bust out. If it's not true, he's got to stand up and say, 'This is not true.'"
The Democratic Party has not yet released its schedule of convention speakers.

Only as soon as the media comes clean and actually reports this story.
I’m still waiting for the media to man up on it. They dragged McCain’s name through the mud with an allegation of adultery already.
McCain hit back immediately after that NYSlimes rumor linking him to a lobbyist. This has gone on too long for Edwards. If it weren’t true, he should have said so immediately.
nah!
let’s dribble it out just before the dem convention.
I predict Mr Fowler will take more abuse from the rats than Edwards will .
Little John can’t sue his way out of this one.
This runaway train is starting to roll!
Edwards urged to clear up affair report
RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Fellow Democrats are reportedly advising John Edwards to publicly address allegations of an extra-marital affair or risk losing the national spotlight.
The National Enquirer has alleged in a series of stories that the former U.S. senator form North Carolina had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby.
With the Democratic National Convention two weeks away, Edwards is being told that if he fails to clear up the story in short order, he risks being shunted aside by party leaders and not being asked to address the convention, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer said.
"If there is not an explanation that's satisfactory, acceptable and meets high moral standards, the answer is 'no,' he would not be a prime candidate to make a major address to the convention," Don Fowler, a former DNC chairman, told the Observer.
Democrats gather in Denver on Aug. 25 and Edwards, as the 2004 vice presidential nominee and a presidential candidate this year, ordinarily would be locked in as a speaker, the newspaper said.
Some = 2 or 3?
I don’t hear much clamor.
Imagine if this had been Mitt Romney. The story would be above the fold every day. Olbermutt would devote his entire show to this.

"Love child! Never meant to be!"
How did you get a photo of my cat Brock in a paper bag?
If only “Silk Pony” was able to get a thrill run up his leg from Obama like Chrissy Mathews did, there would be no story. That said, it doesn’t look good for the suer because he has not come out in complete denial. I do feel sorry and embarassed for his family.
To be honest, if there was to be a scandal with Edwards, I would have thought it more likely with another man.
“Former North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Don Fowler says, “If there is not an explanation that’s satisfactory, acceptable and meets high moral standards, the answer is ‘no,’ he would not be a prime candidate to make a major address to the convention.”
So, if the Breck girl fesses up to having an affair and illegitimate baby, that will meet the DNC’s high moral standards?
gimme a break...they’ll say he’s merely spending time with his sick wife while waiting for things to blow over.
The best way to prove the child is not his is to have a simple test done. If he’s not the father, there’s egg all over the N.E. Plus a law suit, no doubt.
