Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has seen his lead in Massachusetts and across the nation slip precipitously over the past few months, especially with older, more experienced, voters.
In June, Obama was ahead of Republican candidate John McCain by 23 percentage points, but this summer, Obama has been virtually bleeding support in the Bay State. He now leads McCain by only 9 percentage points here.
Nationally, Obama's lead varies on an almost daily basis. In recent days, he has been tied with McCain, ahead by 3 points and ahead by 1 point.
The fluctuating numbers come on the heels of Obama's much-publicized Middle Eastern and European tour, during which he was treated as visiting royalty by most officials while he made the mistake of portraying a potential president as a monarchist. The trip did help Obama's lead, but it didn't last long, particularly once McCain began a weeklong attack on the Democrat's so-called celebrity status. The McCain campaign ran an advertisement comparing Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. It appears to have hit home with some voters.
But the roller-coaster numbers aren't due only to McCain's ads.
They are also directly related to Obama's roller-coaster positions on issues.
In recent weeks, Obama has changed his positions almost as often as he changes his designer suits.
He has switched his stance on oil drilling, suddenly deciding he would be open to limited proposals for offshore drilling. He recently declared he would be willing, after all, to tap the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserves to lower the price of gasoline. And he has altered his position on withdrawing from Iraq, saying he will listen to advice from ground commanders. Frankly, the Democratic candidate's flip-flops are starting to give voters whiplash. They can't snap their heads back and forth as quickly as Obama can change his stances on crucial issues. But voters' pain may prove to be Obama's loss, if recent polls are any gauge of public opinion.
It takes a lot more than a good campaign slogan and a smooth speaking style to win the presidency. Obama may well learn that lesson the hard way.
Oops...Sorry!
Is it possible that the media is experiencing “buyers remorse” before the DNC convention and are hoping to put enough bad press out to induce Hillary to try and take the nomination?
Obamalamadingdong will seal his own fate. I cannot wait for him to appear with McCain in an old-fashioned town hall style debate - the “uhhs” and “umms” will dominate everything he says.
It is time for Obama to pursue the “you are a racist” strategy... no wait...
Would that make a difference if Romney wereon the ticket?
But he already has his "presidential seal"...
The Dems have stepped in it with their little experiment in pseudo-diversity. America isn’t ready for the likes of Obama. He’s too liberal. Too academic. Too out of touch.
Now, can we all have a good chuckle and ask him to shut up until he loses in November?
Does it eat fish?
Is Obama’s lead growing in any state?
Yes, the State of Denial.
He knows it, his handlers know it, and most importantly his water carriers in the press know it too.
So they are not going to let it happen.
Lil’freeper will verify that I had predicted long ago that McCain would win this election in a landslide akin to Nixon over McGovern and Reagan over Fritz Mondale.
I have seen nothing to suggest otherwise.
I couldn’t agree more, and perhaps we will be lucky enough to throw out some useless congress-critters in the process.
Falling Star...it IS the Obamadammerung (twilight of the demi-god Obama)
Your right, the MSM and Dem operatives WILL NOT let this happen.
Look for a oil spill, nuke plant accident, a new smear....something the libs will rig up to make noise.
WATCH FOR SOMETHING SOON.
He is doing it to himself. He hasn’t got the old time skill of changing his tune without making it look like hes pandering for votes. He would be for slavery if the polls were for it. He will, as his wise but racist pastor said, do or say anything to get votes and get elected. Sadly for him, what works in Chicago ward politics will not work in a national election. The race card only works for so long and only with the right groups. Its a hand he has played for too long. I see doom coming for him unless something dramatic happens.
