WASHINGTON - A Connecticut congressman took his turn Wednesday in an unusual piece of political guerrilla theater taking place on one of the most prominent stages in the country: the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rep. Chris Shays, the lone New England Republican in the House, stood in the chamber of the recessed Congress where the lights are low and microphones are off until the session resumes in September and demanded that the Democratic majority come back to the Capitol and allow a debate on energy policy.
More specifically, Shays and several other Republicans who returned to Washington during this five-week recess want a vote on more oil and natural gas drilling. Shays described their plan as "a comprehensive approach, which also includes drilling."
"We have been deprived of a debate," Shays argued on the floor.

I have a bit of schadenfreude for New England voters since they voted(i.e liberal democrat) for their problems now(high energy prices)
If Bush had any political sense.....he’d call a special summer session of Congress to deal with the energy “emergency”.....
......Harry Truman did it in 1948....calling back the “Do-nothing Republican Congress”......and you know what....?
Truman beat Dewey....there are still some who can’t believe it, yet.
Our there any politicians in the White House?
Jesse A. Hamilton ought'a get out more...
lol
Wow, kudos to Shays for being there but is that a tragic fact or what! At least if Obama challenges him, Shays can say "I know what it's like to be a token."
Sigh. There are still a few of us conservatives here in NE. It really is beautiful country, but we have way too many liberals!!
If Bush had any political sense.....”
Ha, good one!
This is an opinion piece, right? It definitely isn’t an objective news piece.
I know, MSM isn’t objective but this is getting ridiculous.
Wheres the creativity?.. Placards that read WHO TURNED THE LIGHTS OUT?... should be visible..
Not NO but hell NO, at least not any with any guts !!

They can't jury rig a news feed, the lights aren't the problem, the fact that no cameras, except the Cspan feed, are allowed on the house floor. What little video that has come out of there since this started was kind of bootlegged.
Thank-you Rep.Shays for doing the right thing. Support from one CT Yankee to another.
Here C-Span could be providing a service to the nation, and it fills it’s air time with lesser programming.
I remember back when the Whitewater hearings were on, C-Span claimed it couldn’t cover them because it’s mandate was to cover Congress or the Senate live.
Well, there’s something going on in Congress and where is C-Span? No, it’s not actual official Congressional business, but it is historic in nature.
Others will disagree, but I think C-Span is very prejudiced in the direction of the Democrats.
Conservatives should not have allowed this RINO on the floor. He is doing nothing but taking advantage of the publicity that true patriots and true conservatives have created. He is a liberal, gutless, sham and should have been thrown out the moment he stuck his nose in the door.
The States with the long history of liberalism have the highest gasoline prices. However, their populations still seem to believe that their future lies with government largesse.
House rules say that the speaker has the power over the cameras. Queen Nan shut them off only she can turn them back on.
$4 a gallon? I just signed a contract with my heating oil company in CT for $5 a gallon! That was the only way I could get a locked-in price. They offered me $4.79 but only as an adjustable rate. There are plenty of genius nay-sayers out there, but I feel pretty certain that heating oil is going through the roof this winter regardless of what Congress does.
A rump session isn’t “guerilla theater”.
It’s about two inches away from a regime crisis, which is coming closer and closer.
Keep your powder dry.
