U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D., N.J.) opposes President Bush's proposal to lift the ban, saying the debate "is not about producing more oil, it's really about producing more profits for Big Oil." He said oil companies should exploit the land and undersea areas already available to them for oil drilling.
His Republican opponent, former U.S. Rep. Dick Zimmer, takes a Jersey-centric view of offshore drilling. Zimmer says he is open to environmentally safe drilling off the coasts. But, he says, "I would oppose drilling off the Jersey Shore or anywhere else that would pose a danger to the Jersey Shore."

>I would oppose drilling off the Jersey Shore
Typical NIMBY attitude.
For my part, I wouldn’t want the sight of oil rigs spoiled by the Jersey Shore.

But, he says, "I would oppose drilling off the Jersey Shore or anywhere else that would pose a danger to the Jersey Shore."IOW, drill.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
ZING!
If by this he means he is opposed to oil rigs within sight of the shore, or closer to the shore than the typical minimums used by offshore drilling States, then this is a reasonable statement by someone running for office.
As for the environment Jersey if the the wearers of concrete overcoats residing off the Atlantic City coastline haven't already ruined the water, then nothing will.
Zimmerman would lose anyway. The people of NJ probably rank at the top of the list when it comes to the “dumbest state in the union”. Michigan (go Apps) would rank right behind them. They pay high taxes, and they keep going up. Zimmerman suffer from being dumb also. He should stay at the house and not pollute the air by driving his car around the state. He’s a loser.
Exactly, because if normal thinking people would think it through, the more drilling that takes place, the more oil will be put into the market. With supply up, the price per barrel would go down, lowering Big Oil profits. Hence, a vote to drill is a vote for LOWERING Big Oil Profits!!! By San Fran Nan blocking an up or down vote, she is protecting Big Oil Profits. She must be the one in the pocket of Big Oil.

I have to challenge you on your statement. Michigan is about to destroy the entire American automotive industry. Can New Jersey beat that?
And Michigan’s communist governor is so brain-dead she couldn’t sell iced lemonade in a desert.
Plus Michigan has the highest unemployment in the nation, and the liberal idiot voters returned her to the governor’s chair with 57% of the vote.
In addition, the realty market in Michigan is crashing. You can buy a three bedroom Victorian in Saginaw or Flint for $2,500. Can New Jersey beat that? I don’t think so.
Check this out -
That’s NINE houses for sale in Saginaw. The top bid now is $1,325. For NINE houses. NINE HOUSES!!??!!! I bet New Jersey can’t beat that.
Michigan also hold the No. 1 spot in hiring moving vans to flee the state. Where’s New Jersey?
Sorry, Michigan has you beat in nearly every negative category. Michigan is what America will look like under obama.
Gov. Corzine was on Fox & Friends this morning. He, too, opposes any off-shore drilling. Congressman Frank Pallone was on Your World With Neil Cavuto yesterday. I didn’t catch the entire segment, but he too is against any off-shore drilling. It was humorous too, in that Pallone referred to Cavuto as Nick. IIRC, both used the standard talking points of oil companies and their 68 million acre leases and we must protect the Jersey Shore. What bothered me most about both men is that they decide what will be done with nothing said about input from the residents of the state.
I grew up in NJ and spent many summer weeks at the Shore as a kid. I don’t want any environmental damage either, but I think it’s a policy worth pursuing.
Of course, neither politician talks about how people are going to heat their houses this winter.
States control the first three miles as a minimum.
Quite.
Don’t worry Carl Levin will be reelected along with “the Laut”. Sad world.
