Mika Warns: 'We'll Get a Call' for Mocking Olympics
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/06/2008 4:44:27 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Could the NBC honchos be a tad touchy about criticism of the Beijing Olympics—especially when it comes from its own talent pool? Was there a kernel of truth in Mika Brzezinski's light-hearted warning that MSNBC's Morning Joe crew would "get a call" if it persisted in its mocking of the games for whose broadcast rights the Peacock Network has over the years paid billions?

When the subject of the Olympics arose during the opening segment of today's show, the panel went into an extended coughing fit, coupled with cracks about tanks in Tiananmen Square. Mika joined in the joshing for a while, before finally putting her foot down . . .

View video here.

Mika touched things off with a news item about the Olympic torch.

The I.O.C. and the Chi-coms can kiss my big ole hairy white rear end. I’ll not support either.

For once she makes sense. If not the NBC execs the Chinese embassy will be calling. Neither one has a sense of humor.

Stay on this one, Mark. NBC needs the money badly. They’ll do whatever it takes to sell the advertising.

IF I watch at all, it will be the CBC feed I get. I want to see events, not a sappy soap opera.

Protests would draw viewers. I haven’t heard one person say they were excited about this year’s Olympics. It will be a ratings disaster and a PR disaster for China.

Has anyone noted the opening ceremonies are on 8/08/08. You know the terrorists love #’s. And we already know they are in China. How many attacked have happened in the last 2 weeks.
I wonder how many things have been covered up by the Chinese.
How the Olympic Comm. chose them is beyond me. How they continue to defend them is completely wrong. Censured internet. Bugging hotel rooms. I hope they loose a ton of $$$ and the Olympic committee is embarrassed beyond belief.
But then again I thing the Olympic Comm. is not completely human. maybe part android or something like that.

You and I have found the same solution. NBC coverage seems to be less than 20% events.

Isn’t it funny the way that MSM reporters continue to ignore China human rights violations. But, what do you expect from people that were brainwashed in so called journalism schools that worshiped Chairman Mao.

I believe the number 8 represents, symbolizes 'good fortune' in the Chinese culture

I was going to say the same thing. It’s considered an auspicious number.

As far as I can tell, just about every other friggin’ number and set of circumstances signifies good fortune in the Chinese culture. Even stale cookies with paper notes inside.

What does it mean in the terrorist culture. 9/11- 7/7 (I forget spains. They have a habit of using certain dates/big events or just everyday goings on. What I was trying to say was they’ve already established the terrorists are there in Bejing or close by. What an excellent opportunity to stage an attack with all their enemies in one location.
Besides, the getaway would be easy. All smog. You wouldn’t see a thing. I pray nothing happens to the athletes, families and countrymen but I just get a feeling.

At least as long as we are not in China. We know China is restricting access to certain internet websites to reporters covering the games.
