California Democrat Nancy Pelosi may be trying to save the planet but the rank and file in her party increasingly are just trying to save their political hides when it comes to gas prices as Republicans apply more and more rhetorical muscle.
But what looks like intraparty tension on the surface is part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes shes encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically, according to Democratic aides on and off Capitol Hill.
Pelosis gambit rests on one big assumption: that Democrats will own Washington after the election and will be able to craft a sweeping energy policy that is heavy on conservation and fuel alternatives while allowing for some new oil drilling. Democrats see no need to make major concessions on energy policy with a party poised to lose seats in both chambers in just three months even if recess-averse Republicans continue to pound away on the issue.
The reality is we will have a new president in three months, and what Bush and the Republicans are trying to do amounts to a land grab for the oil companies, said one senior House Democratic aide involved with party strategy. I dont think we have to give in at all pre-election we have many more options postelection.
Its a reality that Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-W.Va.) personally delivered to President Bush recently.

I dont think we have to give in at all pre-election"
And this is coming from an aide to one of the 'gang'? I guess we see how much they are willing to 'compromise'. It doesn't bother them in the least to LIE TO OUR FACES!
Defeat Blue Dogs and SOCIALIST DEMS!! Lets give the house back to the people!! The first term DEMS need to be TERM LIMITED by the VOTERS!!!
Please do not insult ROCKS -- they are SMARTER!!
Stop printing flat out lies!
Is Cindy Sheehan still running against Pelosi? Maybe we ought to back her, like John Hawkins at RightWingNews.com. is doing. Use one moonbat to get rid of another moonbat.
“State-level polling conducted by Democrats suggests that voters still view President Bush and the GOP as the incumbent power in Washington, and Democratic strategists believe any anti-incumbent wave would hurt Republicans more than Democrats.”
For several years I have attempted to work with the Republican party on Internet media and stated the evident brain-washing occuring and how to counter this.
The old school Republicans always expected a full plan at no cost (even a GI gets a paycheck dummies) or passed me off to a clerk requesting I fill out 200 page forms. The Democrats call me, I tell them the price and they wire the money. Why is that hard for Republicans to understand? I did conduct Patriotism style services for the American people nonetheless through Republicans from 2001-current before you flame me. And - I no longer accept any job for the Democrats as any penny I now accept is considered dirty as they have betrayed America. Just pointing out what the Republicans must do to actually stage a comeback to overcome brain washing of ignorant masses of lower and middle class voters.
To do this is to educate the American people. The quoted statement from the article is correct, the larger majority of voters associate GW Bush to gas prices and NOT the Democratic party. The President may have considered bartering signing the Housing bill for an energy bill which included drilling. Now GW Bush gets all the blame for what’s coming down the pike in the economy for the next few years and that really ticks me off. President Bush sacrificed much for the American people but we all need to learn about coups, how to be an attorney on the Hill etc, right?!?! Sickening. But some here have rightfully pointed out that the President seemed to have difficulties communicating his efforts to the Press. There’s another boondogle word - media. Hmmm...
I have asked two very big people (Republicans) for help in simply giving me the blessing of contacting people in Ways and Means for some help on Raging Debate.com, a service me and my business partner are launching at the end of this week.
We’re self funding it at this point and by the time it is picked up I have to say I will be very tepid about leveraging it for the Republican party. It will be non-biased.
My final points on my rant and I appreciate allowing me to voice strong opinions: Let’s see the goods first boys on acting like Conservatives! Last Friday was a good start!
Perhaps I should have been calling the men from Texas these last four years instead of the Cold War era club that mostly doesn’t know how to use the Internet. Republicans, YOU MUST MAKE INVESTMENTS INTO MEDIA. This is a multi-year process. Database and media work on a consistent, ongoing basis. You have not learned from Hillary or Bill on this and how they managed to brain wash the public and you should have!
NOT saying these things means I do not care for America. I do! Now flame away if you would like. Meanwhile, I shall take away from my families time to serve America while you pump out McCains weak positions on everything. Senator McCain is a fine man and wekl intentioned public servant (rare in Washington these days), but indeed very confused on economics. Please learn from President Bush on a mixed cabinet too if McCain wins. “reaching out across the aisles” doesn’t work until the Dems have had 12 years of accepting truth from there deranged visions and governance.
(Reagan selected mixed cabinet, so Republicans thought this would work again, shall we have 12 years of ruinous Dem reign or shall we educate the people?)
Exactly.
‘bloggers and radio’
Republicans are outgunned on Internet readership 10 to 1 on blogs. Radio is great but how many listen everyday? I attempt to listen to AM at night on the way home but all I get is baseball games. It was very interesting seeing the Dem Senators attacking Rush this last year http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=27185 .
I suspect Dems will find a subtle way to cut back power and reception on certain AM frequencies one way or the other. Much harder for them to control the Internet though, at least for now.
Please do not blame true Conservatives for the Republican party acting liberal. I’ll vote but please don’t ask me to be thrilled about Senator McCain. He has become ‘Liberal Light’ and thinks the American public wants it that way. I don’t know whom is conducting his primary research but they stink! Driving around on a bus and hearing what voters want but ignoring them by continuing to support Global Warming scams (glad he finally stopped this) doesn’t sink in well with voters. Nor does waiting 90 days on the drilling debate. He had a clear window to differentiate himself from Barack but his message of alternatives and nuke power now both sound identical. Yes, McCain supports drilling now but most of America doesn’t even understand this.
Exactly Beagle8. First, Republicans can stop ‘reaching out’ and act like Conservatives. In other words, mean it. That is what the American people want. Second, invest in advertising. That means bright people whom are well paid so they don’t defect later. And it means consistency in the advertising message about Conservative values. Why is it so difficult to explain to voters the difference between a profit and a profit margin by big oil?
http://www.house.gov/jec/tax/stock/stock.htm Think American voters are too dumb or is it your advertising people have no talent Republicans? Ever hear the saying perception becomes the reality?
This is true. To do this, Republicans need stataticians to pull out facts. At an investor forum I go too, I discussed economics with some whom were Democrats. I simply overlaid state maps with the worst economic crisis with red or blue states. Americans can understand such simple demonstrations and ads that talk about House control of States or Federal Government.
Activist judges is a big problem indeed. Fight fire with fire, use money and lawyers on money and lawyers for the internal fight. For the external fight and message to the public, invest money into educating the public. Act conservative and continue showing some recent spine in standing up to the Dems.
This morning I heard an ad on FM radio that said”
“Americans have conserved and oil prices have come down. Coninued conservation shall mean lower gas prices for the long-term” That was the end, a 20 second blip. I felt like putting my fist through my windshield.
Correct. And Carter did launch alternative initiatives and synco. The current crop of Dem idiots think this way:
It is evident to all of us here that direct theft is occuring, but not evident to the public.
Couple of posts already made about “reaching out”. This is nothing short of a coup by the Democrats but some are insulted as they recommend how the GOP can counter this assault.
We all saw this coming. The new Democrat talking points:....”BIG OIL’ done you wrong”....and....”Oh well, the prices have gone done...go back to sleep while I take your wallet”.
The media is in full swing with the memos from the DNC!
BUT...THIS COUNTRY IS WAKING UP!!
Praise Jesus!
I don’t think late payments to 45% of Americans on some form of government assistance will be helpful to winning an election. President Bush held the wild card in my opinion on energy and could have traded Housing bailout for an energy bill. Nothing to barter with the Democrats on. The rotten scoundrels are correct in there assessment of the political situation. Three months to advertise the truth to the public and clarify whom legislates and who stamps bills in Washington is not much time to work with...
I praise Jesus every day. But Christ cannot compel men to LIVE a moral standard based on Judeo Christian values.
Therefore, until the Republican party acts on that value system, it will be a lot easier for the secularlists whom believe in nothing to dominate. History rythmes, look at the 60’s and Dems rise to power during the 70’s.
You don’t fight the devil by a less watered down message in an attempt for votes. The Democrats will win a victory from time to time with lies, but they have consistently lost to Republicans because of the value system of Judeo Christian values and how our nation was founded.
That is why this House can do almost whatever it wants and those Republicans blaming freepers here at this post for not voting or not voting strict Republican is disturbing.
The American people don’t need a sermon, they need a simple message stating we are going to apply our nations founding fathers vision of Judeo Christian values. Let the MSM attempt to rip them on seperation of church and state, let the gay league, the drug lord league and the ACLU lobby for the secular state and let the Republicans educate the masses to expose this occuring. But more importantly is acting as a founder of the nation based on Judeo Christian values. Christ will do His part, we shall do ours and understand man has free will. God is not zuess he doesn’t send lightning bolts from the sky. He gave a very simply manual for the best beneficial life on this earth for a reason.
Thanks for the ‘sermon’.
(grin)
Just yankin your chain. I hear you, but conservatives sitting home in November, will do nothing to help those values flourish in our country!
In fact, it might even give the democrats full control of our government and the damage done will take decades to undo.
A lot of conservatives still voted for Congressional Republicans in 2006. All of this has been rehashed billions of times here in the aftermath, yet this garbage about conservatives "staying home to teach Republicans a lesson" doesn't hold water. Republicans lost mainly because of historical trends. People enjoy divided government because it promotes less government and openness than one-party majority rule.
Stop blaming the voters for candidates' defeats. It is the politicians' job to have a message and sell his ideas to a skeptical public.
