Pelosi: At-risk Dems back drilling
Politico ^ | 8-5-2008 | Martin Kady II and Patrick O'Connor

California Democrat Nancy Pelosi may be trying to save the planet — but the rank and file in her party increasingly are just trying to save their political hides when it comes to gas prices as Republicans apply more and more rhetorical muscle.

But what looks like intraparty tension on the surface is part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she’s encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically, according to Democratic aides on and off Capitol Hill.

Pelosi’s gambit rests on one big assumption: that Democrats will own Washington after the election and will be able to craft a sweeping energy policy that is heavy on conservation and fuel alternatives while allowing for some new oil drilling. Democrats see no need to make major concessions on energy policy with a party poised to lose seats in both chambers in just three months — even if recess-averse Republicans continue to pound away on the issue.

“The reality is we will have a new president in three months, and what Bush and the Republicans are trying to do amounts to a land grab for the oil companies,” said one senior House Democratic aide involved with party strategy. “I don’t think we have to give in at all pre-election — we have many more options postelection.”

It’s a reality that Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-W.Va.) personally delivered to President Bush recently.

Democrat will lie to get elected and if they do get a veto proof majority, Socialism will reign in this country.

Every demoncrat running for office needs to be defeated.

...which is why we need a big turnout for McCain in November. There is a chance to turn this thing around. I believe Pubs are starting to wake up to the fact that people want them to act like Conservatives and a move to the right will be rewarded.

“Democrats see no need to make major concessions on energy policy with a party poised to lose seats in both chambers in just three months..”

Vulnerable Dems have to be linked with no-Nancy’s nonsense.
Harry only has a one seat majority. no-Nancy’s unpopular stand could cost him the majority.

The worst victim of no-Nancy is Obambi. With any kind of luck no-Nancy will be facing a McCain White House and Republican senate in 2009.

We need a big turnout for ALL Republicans running. That is the only to stop the socialist democrats from having a veto proof majority in the House and Senate.

It won't do much to elect McCain if the democrats have that veto proof majority.

What SanFranNan’s saying is that the people want something, the people that are in these “vulnerable democrats’” voting districts,

and she’s just going to make those representatives ignore their constituents.

How are they waking up anyone, when they themselves are asleep? It seems that only the bloggers and radio are doing the fighting. Making speeches in an empty house isn't doing a damn thing and Bush is just sitting around with his thumb up his ars, instead of calling them back. Meantime the country is hurting! Yep good leadership there!

I hope all those Republicans who voted for demoncrats in the last election to teach Republicans a lesson for spending so much money, realize they screwed themselves and the country.

Their vote gave us Pelosi and Reid. If they don't vote for Republicans this time around, they will find themselves in a socialist state and paying through the nose with higher taxes, higher fuel prices, higher food prices and all other increase costs.

“I’m staying home this election to teach the Republicans a lesson!” — many Freepers who can, I hope, walk to work and won’t mind a 65% marginal tax rate

So you want an Obama in the White House who's planning to tax you sox off?

I'm not a big fan of McCain, but I will have to vote for him because Obama and the demoncrats will destroy this country.

I'm pushing for us to get Republicans back in the MAJORITY in order to keep Obama and McCain from doing any more damage to this country then the demoncrats have done and or will do going froward.

Every Demonrat is an enabler. All GOP candidates need to highlight this because this is nothing but getting elected and putting their liberal policies in place. They cannot be allowed more power and the judges need to be focused on as well. We don’t need judges that favor terrorsts, child molesters, murderers and destroying our Constitution. Call them on it.

Any Republican running against an endangered Democrat MUST emphasize over and over that a vote for his or her Democrat opponent, regardless of what the Democrat says, is a vote for a continuation of Nancy Pelosi's policies.

Nice try.... All they have to do is do what’s best for America.

No......they would rather screw things up for Americans especially if that means they could do their own private agenda and that’s living free off the fat of the land.

I say get rid of them.

From the article:

"Even as they face heat from constituents during the August break, Democrats say they aren’t going to cave in to popular pressure.

We feel pretty comfortable with where we are,” said Rep. Michael E. Capuano (D-Mass.), who is close to the Democratic leadership. “This is a not a new issue...

Democrats are also comforted somewhat by the fact that crude oil prices have gone down more than 10 percent from their summer highs, and if the U.S. economy enters a recession, prices may fall further due to slackening demand.

“There is no crisis on our side of the aisle,” a top House Democratic leadership aide said..."

Glad to hear that the Democrat Party leadership is comfy with the current situation. Meanwhile the little people will freeze this winter.
