When we built our home 20 years ago, my husband had a furnace installed that can burn gas or wood. We burned wood on and off the 1st couple of years, then have been using mostly gas. With prices going up so much these past two years, we have been cutting and splitting wood again this summer. I’m really grateful we have the option.
I was listening to O’Reilly’s stupid rant against the oil companies and I had an idea.
I propose that the congress open up ALL the off shore areas to drilling and use the money that the government gets from the leases to help off set the costs of heating fuel for the poor, next winter. The program could be run in a manner similar to food stamps and only be given out when the price is above a certain limit.
Dude! I just heard a statement from Nine Percent Nancy! She said that the Republicans’ plan would not save a penny in gas prices for 10 years while hers would lower prices in ten minutes!
All the more reason to get her on the ‘hill’!
Show us yours, Nancy and we’ll show your ours!!
Where did you hear that!!
PLZ!!
Going to buy and send as well!
VALUABLE INFO:
DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW AND COMBINE THAT WITH MAKING, BUYING, AND DRIVING FLEX FUEL VEHICLES!
Anne Korin, Co-Director for the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security spoke at a Young American Foundation, National Conservative Students Conference yesterday morning. She spoke about the combo as the only way...NOT drilling only. She said it is a very real situation that we drill more, they drill less = same amount of oil.
I believe that we need to send the message that IT'S NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL (We're gettin' our own darn oil!!!)....AND....COMBINE THAT AS SHE POINTS OUT, WITH FLEX-FUEL VEHICLES, OR WE'VE LOST THE BATTLE.
We need vehicles which offer us choices, to keep the playing field "honest." (my words) Competition is the only option, and when you have basically a drug cartel in the oil industry, you cannot escape its hold, UNLESS YOU CREATE VEHICLES...WHICH THEY ARE MAKING RIGHT NOW FOR BRAZIL...THAT ARE FLEX-FUEL (use whatever is the cheapest commodity at the time) VEHICLES!!!!!
COME ON CONGRESS!
So when a democrat tells you that it will be 10 years to get the oil to market from offshore drilling....tell them the Glenn Pool story.
You can count on it! Very useful info - thanks for posting it.
Here's some related info:
"... But heres what truly floored me: Shell decided Brutuss location in the gulf would be profitable for drilling in April 1999. The company then built the massive oil platform, transported it to the right location in the gulf, anchored the floating leviathan onto the seafloor 3,000 feet below, drilled 17,000 feet below that, and began producing oil in July 2001. It took only two years to get Brutus online..."
This was posted by FReeper angkor in another thread (posted here - I added the highlighting):
"It's less than 100 miles from the prospective ANWR drill site to Prudhoe Bay and the Alaska Pipeline. That's the amount of new pipeline that would need to be built.
The Aleyska Pipeline took 3 years for 700 miles (including across the Brooks Range, the Alaska Range, the Chugach, and hundreds of lakes, rivers and deep tundra). An ANWR "connector" to Prudhoe Bay is more or less a straight shot across open tundra with none of the complexities of Aleyska. It could probably be built in less than one year, thus providing almost instant access to ANWR output via the Valdez oil terminal.
The AK Pipeline is currently running at about 1/2 capacity, and figures I've seen indicate it can easily move another 500K barrels per day (some say more than that).
BTTT
The Senate is still in session. This means that the President cannot call them back to work since technically they are still in session.
That’s awesome. I didn’t know that such furnaces exist. We have 2 fireplaces but I’ve read that fireplaces aren’t that efficient to heat so they’re mostly decorative to us.
I have seen portable heaters that are advertised to be efficient and inexpensive - we’re looking into that as well as doing what we can to diminish heat loss (caulking, attic insulation, etc.). Thank you for the info about the furnace.

Pelosi: Democrats Offer Immediate Relief in 10 Days vs. Republican Plan to Save 2 Cents in 10 Years
Last update: 4:46 p.m. EDT Aug. 4, 2008
WASHINGTON, Aug 04, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on Democratic proposals to bring relief to Americans at the pump:
“Democrats offered a real solution to high energy prices that would bring immediate relief within 10 days by forcing the President to free our oil from the nation’s stockpile. The Republicans propose to give away public lands to Big Oil, which will not immediately reduce the price at the pump and save Americans only 2 cents 10 years from now. This Republican hoax is unworthy of the serious debate we must have to reduce the price at the pump and promote energy independence.
“House Republicans have opposed forcing oil companies to drill on the 68 million acres they already control, new investments in renewable energy, increasing vehicle fuel efficiency standards, making mass transit more affordable, cracking down on price gouging, and releasing oil from the government’s stockpile. When it comes to energy policy, Republicans are once again promoting the interests of Big Oil and the Bush Administration that has resulted in $4 a gallon of gasoline.
I am trying to get information on who from Colorado is there and who is not. This is my first day off, and I want to make a few dozen phone calls.
According to the link, the reporter must have ‘misquoted’ Nine Percent Nancy....
Oh, the drama!
