A national Associated TV/Zogby International telephone poll of 1,011 likely voters conducted July 31-Aug. 1 finds Republican Sen. John McCain taking a razor-thin 42%-41% lead over Democrat Sen. Barack Obama in the race for the U.S. presidency.
The margin between the candidates is statistically insignificant, but demonstrates a notable turn-around from the Reuters/Zogby poll of July 7-9 that showed Obama ahead, 46%-36% in a four-way match-up that included Libertarian candidate Bob Barr of Georgia and liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader.
McCain made significant gains at Obamas expense among some of what had been Obamas strongest demographic groups. For example: McCain gained 20% and Obama lost 16% among voters ages 18-29. Obama still leads that group, 49%-38%. Among women, McCain closed 10 points on Obama, who still leads by a 43%-38% margin. Obama has lost what was an 11% lead among Independents.
He and McCain are now tied. Obama had some slippage among Democrats, dropping from 83% to 74%. Obamas support among single voters dropped by 19%, and he now leads McCain, 51%-37%. Even with African-Americans and Hispanics, Obama shows smaller margins

Combined with this morning's Rasmussen Poll this DEFINATELY can be considered a trend!
MORE: "Electoral votes decide the Presidency, and this ATV/Zogby poll gives signs that McCain is making gains in winning key states. By region, McCains greatest gains came in the Central U.S. and in the West, home to several key battleground states. What was a narrow Obama lead in the Central U.S. is now a 45%-36% McCain edge. In the West, Obamas 15% lead is gone, and McCain is now ahead, 43%-40%.
Catholics, who are always a critical voting bloc, favored Obama by 11% in mid-July. Now, they favor McCain by 15%.
Other groups where Obamas lead has suffered include college graduates and those with family incomes of $25,000 to $35,000. Like the Zogby/Reuters poll, this one included Libertarian Bob Barr and Independent Ralph Nader. Both dropped just 1% between the two polls, with both now at 2%."
Great news
If there is any bradley effect, November should be a landslide.
i dont know how any and i mean ANY catholic can vote for a pro choice liberal. I just don’t understand that.
We are going to see this from now until September. It’s going to be fun watching Barry self destruct.
Like two kids in the back seat of a car. McCain will poke him a little and Barry will yell ‘Stop touching me’!
Pretty soon Dad (the voters) will turn around and knock the $hit out of him.
It’s the Iraq success and gas prices declining. And people are starting to see that the “elitist” label is reality and not politics.
That may just be the funniest (and most accurate) description of Obama I've heard this year. :D
Conflict between labor and religion.
Uh oh! McCain polling too high again!

“i dont know how any and i mean ANY catholic can vote for a pro choice liberal”
Isn’t that because when respondents are asked what is their religion, they say Catholic since they were baptized a Catholic, but never go to church or really believe in any traditional teachings. A Catholic RINO sort of.
EgoBama even more unlikeable than Kerry! Thanks Dems for this empty suit!
if only that were true. The head of my bible study was quoting the amount of oil obama says we use and telling us how maybe we are to blame for 911.
And i have an uncle who has more interaction with Vatican and yet LOVED Algore and says bush is a baffone.
I wish they were just baptized Catholic.
This really surprises me. I can see older voters coming to their senses, especially those who remember that absolute buffoon Carter, but the 18-29s?
What’s the “bradley effect”?
Of course there’s a Bradley Effect. What other possible reason could anyone have to oppose Obama’s candidacy? Policy differences? Nah. Distrust? Nah. Dislike of race-baiting? Nah. Shocked by his tendency to throw everyone, even democrat icons, under the bus for political gain? Nah. Even honest, good-old-fashioned partisanship? Nope.
There’s only one conceivable reason anyone, ever, could vote againt Barack Obama: racism. I heard it on all the networks right after he lost New Hampshire.
Bradley Effect, indeed.
Ohio slips a little further out of Obambi's grasp, and Pennsylvania slides a little closer to McCain as well.
As the American people rise from their slumber ....
Sorry guys, but something ain’t right here.
Just look around - have you heard many of your friends and acquaintances say they were for Obama and now are for McCain?

This is only a small sample, but two of my Aunts decided to vote against Obama after his world tour.
They are both Catholic Democrats in the Central Pennsylvania area. They detest GWB and were big time Hillary supporters. They now say Obama "scares them" and that they are voting for McCain.
Probably the first Republican either of them has voted for since Reagan's second term. I just hope they bring a lot of their friends along with them.
Some Cathloics ARE pro-choice liebruls.
