And we are easily able to turn your country into a glass-covered parking lot. We are certainly capable, but are we ready, as a nation, to respond at all? WWOD? (What would Obama do?)

Is there some silly reason why a canal cannot be dug here?............ 4,000 foot tall mountain range.
Some example pictures from the area:

Iran needs the gasoline inported through the Straits more than we need the oil. However, China and India might be more upset over the loss of oil more than we will. (And they are a lot closer.)

Iran can try to shut down the Straits, but it won’t be just the US that will be gunning for them, if they do. Most if not ALL the oil that’s shipped out of the ME goes through the straits. Those other countries like that oil money more than they care about their co-religionists. The Arabs have never liked the Persians, anyway. ;o)

They tried to do this before. Big talk met the U. S. Navy.

Is there some silly reason why a canal cannot be dug here?............ Or an oil pipeline across UAE to Oman, straight across from Abu Dhabi, with a tanker loading port on the Oman side

The amount of time Iran could shut down Hormuz would be measured in hours and perhaps a few days. It would be considered an act of war and they would pay a terrible price. They don’t have the military capability to shut down the strait for any significant amount of time.

I see a perfect place for “The Dubai Canal and World Class Container Port”. Right Straight across 35 miles of desert. So, I agree. Let them build it with all those extra petro dollars.
