Email Resonse From Tyson Regarding Muslim Holiday (Vanity)

Posted on 08/04/2008 1:10:36 PM PDT by Kimmers

I sent an email to Tyson regarding my thoughts on the celebration of a Muslim holiday and the following is their response..... as a liberal once told me you vote with your dollars, I won't be buying Tyson....

"Contrary to recent reports, Labor Day has not been done away with at the Tyson plant in Shelbyville, TN. Recent RWDSU (Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union) contract negotiations resulted in a different holiday for workers covered by the contract, for which the union bargained. Employees not covered by the contract will still have Labor Day as a paid holiday. The union asked for and received eid al-fitr in place of Labor Day as a paid holiday. Employees receive eight paid holidays per year, which is the same number provided in the old contract. The contract does not provide for an additional holiday."

So wait, does this mean they are making the Muslim Holiday “Labor Day”? I’m confused.

That’s the way the federal government enforces it’s regulations (not laws passed by our representatives). If states don’t obey the regulations, states won’t get federal money.

Like the last energy crisis. If states didn’t adopt the 55 mph speed limit, they would not get highway funds. With federal funds for public schools, it’s ‘No Child Left Behind’.

It’s a form of enslavement.

But if you're an employee covered by this contract, you will have to forego Labor Day and celebrate with the Muslims in October.

You nailed it! What this means is that the other 500 non-muslem employees, out of 1200 union employees in this plant, are forced to observe a muslem holiday. If the muslems are so keen on observing this day, let them take a vacation day, and keep the good old American holiday, Labor Day, instead.

I don’t know about forced to “observe” a muslim holiday, they get the day off work, what they do with that time off is up to them. Really most people don’t do much “observing” of these Monday holidays, you stay up late the night before because there’s no work tomorrow, sleep in, maybe if the weather is nice go do something fun. And if they really don’t like it they should quit the union, nothing bad about that.

I guess I don’t ‘get it’. If the majority in the union that staffs this plant, negotiated to have a certain date off and gave up another holiday, why should I care? Is it important that everyone works on the holiday of Eid? Is it vital to the public good that we all take off for Labor Day? I hope not, because I can’t remember ever taking Labor Day off, with or without pay. If Tyson or any other company decides to provide more, less, different benefits to their workers, I could care less as long as the are providing goods or services that meet the quality I want at a price I’m willing to pay. Are these employees illegals or engaged in plots against the state, or are they just hard working immigrants trying to get a piece of the same pie we all want and have a right to?

That is the best reason not to.

The Muslim holiday will be on a Wednesday this year. The non-Muslims can observe it by having pork BBQ with a good beer or by watching some Porky Pig or Crusader Rabbit cartoons.

Tyson's intent is to observe Labor Day by having its employees labor on Labor Day.

Same concept though, a meaningless day off. Just not as conveniently placed. Wonder what they’ll do when it’s on a Saturday.

Tyson’s intent is to give the union members they days off they want as long as it doesn’t mean more than 8 holidays a year.

I’ve labored on labor day many times. Heck even when it was a holiday at my company I’ve worked it largely thanks to unfortunate release schedules. No big deal, it’s a stupid commie holiday anyway.

Sorry Tyson just offering it as a paid holiday makes me avoid buying Tyson products!

I got the same e-mail and this is my reply to it:

"Employees not covered by the contract will still have Labor Day as a paid holiday." Well, this is either misleading, or clear as mud. Just who is covered and who is not? If it's a union contract, aren't all employees covered? If not, how many of the reported 1200 are not covered?

True enough, but I really don’t see it as a union issue, but more of a Muslim infiltration issue.

Certainly there’s some Muslim infiltration to it. From the Tyson side though I don’t really see a problem. The union took a vote and came to them with a fairly reasonable request that would not impact the bottom line (swapping one day off for another), nothing really wrong with saying yes to that.

Think about this tactic:

Don’t buy anything from Tyson EXCEPT

PORK PRODUCTS.

They also had a prayer room set up for their Muslim employees. Absolutely no tyson chicken for me. And I love chicken.

Counter-attack: Buy Tyson PORK.

Wonder how they handle that...
