A once-promising House target is looking more and more jeopardized for Republicans thanks to a maverick candidate.
The GOP nominee to challenge first-term Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) said he has suspended his campaign until half of the counties in the 11th district sign on to his list of core principles of the Republican Party.

I may agree with Mumpower's argument with the party, but to do what he is doing is political death.
Besides, he also wants to impeach Bush. Is this guy stupid or what?
Ir reminds me of all the backstabbing that went on in the California assembly back in 1994 when the state finally threw democrats out after 60 years, only to loose it back because they couldn't keep their own elected members from making deals to keep Willi Brown in power.
Heath Shuler is not all that bad for a Dem, but I still would love to get that seat back.
Heath Shuler found a way to return to Washington after failing to stick with the Redskins. His district should be ripe for a Republican. Republicans have to be competitive in districts such as this in order to keep the Dem. majority from growing bigger.
Agreed! Dividing the party doesn't seem like the best strategy to get elected, even in a conservative district.
I'm familiar with the Kansas 3rd, which takes in the Republican suburbs of Kansas City. It had been Republican forever when the party split allowing Moore in. They split again two years later, letting him get re-elected. And he's been there ever since.
Mumpower got the support he wanted within his district and has resumed campaigning.

How did this nut slip into the GOP nomination? He sounds goofier than Ron Paul, and I’ve actually seen Ron Paul speak in person.
Heath Shuler only got elected because he claimed he was a conservative, prolife dem.
What has he done to buck Nancy on taxes, security, or social spending programs?

And they may well repeat that error on Kansas 2nd, once Jenkins and Ryun finish tearing each other apart next week.
Last time I checked, Gus Ferotte was playing for Miami Dolphins.
Solid on immigration, for a Dem.
However, as the article implies, he will kick away the opportunity for the Republicans who should have retaken this conservative seat in the House.

On a brighter note, isn't Asheville in that district? The Rockies have a single-A affiliate there, the Tourists. I just love the names minor league teams come up with. :-))
What has Schuler done on immigration?
The Shuler-Bilbray Bill: The Secure America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act focuses on three areas: employment enforcement, interior enforcement and increased border security.
Shuler-Bilbray Bill-designed to give him cover-nothing more.
Has Nancy supported/allowed a vote on this bill?
