Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.
In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (A Call to Action on American Energy), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Fridays action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.
Its not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering, Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. Weve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.
We realize not everyone can be in Washington next week. But if you can be, we ask that you come to the Capitol, join our colleagues, and lend your voice, beginning this Monday at 10:00 am, the GOP leaders wrote. If you cant be in Washington, we ask that you contribute to the cause in other ways such as spreading the word among your constituents, writing an op-ed for your local newspaper, or taking our all of the above energy message to your local airwaves.
Republicans stand with the American people. We share their passion and determination for energy independence, and weve pledged to fight boldly until Congress heeds their will, Boehner and Blunt concluded.
Eeevil, you have some ‘splainin’ to do.
I believe that you have the absolute right to have your opinions and to be able to express them here on FR. I expect that you should extend the same to me. As I stated in that reply, there was a internet headline that said that GWB stated that he WOULD NOT call a special session of Congress. Whatever opinion that you might take away from that decision is your own, as it is your right to that opinion. The opinion that I take from that stated position is that just as GWB has obstinately refused to enforce our immigration laws, he is now refusing to act (by not calling a special session) in a fairly dire (for many people) national emergency in regards to forcing our defunct congress to act to produce some relief for the nation's oil emergency. Perhaps his inaction is some sort of strategy, but I tend to think it is relative to "legacy" or just plain cowardice. Maybe GWB wants us to pay $4.00 for gas too.
Link to that alleged statement by Pres. Bush?
I don’t question your right to call President Bush a coward. What I meant - which I did not express very clearly - was this: I think that to call President Bush a coward because of a statement on one issue is unwarranted and unjustified.
They woke up, the issue has been there forever, shut up Doug...ok.
Too bad this won’t be on CSPAN.Should be fun to watch.
I like to se the GOP get fired up, and about time they joined the rest of us! Actions today have great consequences in the future - we need to get back to what makes America great.
Drill, baby, drill! By all means necessary!
You forgot “tire inflation.” Next they’ll be telling us to put a brick in our toilets.
“freepers at walter reed friday night heard that pelosi told the capitol police to physically remove the congressman if they don’t leave.”
if above is true, this woman’s actions are a harbinger of what to expect from democrats if they win in large numbers this fall.
it will prove that democrats are nothing but low-life, subversive, leftist filth who want to change the american government into a soviet one while claiming to do the will of the “american people”.
(we’re living in dangerous times with unbridled democrats romping and stomping.)
IMHO
Is a great investment advisor, but sometimes he's on the side of the Gods (like on the drilling issue) and other times he says stuff that's so G-d d@mned Commie / stupid that I can't believe it came from a man who's ever taken an economics class.
In fairness, overall, he's very good. It's just bone-rattling to hear him say things that are right out of Das Kapital on occasion.
Putnam’s message box is not full yet. [Blunt’s is full. Boehner’s phone kept ringing.]
I had an easy time getting through with this toll free number:

Another toll free number is 1-800-965-4701. Busy most of the time.

Tell Queen Pelosi she can take her gas guzzling plane and fly out of the country— on her own dime! We have foreign countries drilling off OUR coast and WE are forbidden? She must be sold out to those foreign countries. Hope you have plenty of Krispy Kreme donuts today.
