A Virginia Tech employee shot himself in a room off the Cassell Coliseum arena on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Tech police responded to the incident at 2:15 p.m., and the man was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, police Chief Wendell Flinchum said.
Officials declined to identify the man, and his condition is unknown.
Although officials said the shooting posed no threat to the campus community, Flinchum said police notified the public by e-mail using part of an alert system put in place after the April 16, 2007, shootings.
Didn't this guy get the word, it's against the law to have a gun on the VA Tech campus! Sounds like we need more gun control laws!
Impossible. VT is a gun free zone. More likely he self-attacked with a Swingline.
The reporting these days...
Not just more gun control, my friend. Why stop there? We should make it illegal to shoot yourself as well. Surely the suicidal will care as much about that law as criminals do about ‘gun free zones.’
I wonder what it feels like to try to kill yourself and fail...must be a real esteem booster.
How in the world did he get a gun into the gun free zone????
a portable cloaking device.
Sorry, the ACLU would never stand for that.
Curses! I thought I had the only one of those in existence! Of course, with a tagline like mine, you might take everything I say two ways.
This hits the nail on the head. Feel good legislation such as declaring a place a gun free zone will not stop the criminal element or the deranged people of the world.
Gun control laws are difficult to enforce, as the criminal element doesn’t give a **%**% about those laws.
Read my tagline again and think about it.
8-)
Wonder if getting shot in a room is a lethal blow?
Va. Tech ahead of projections to meet $1 billion goal by 2010
Less than a year into the public phase of its $1 billion fundraising campaign, Virginia Tech has raised more than two-thirds of its goal.
Total pledges for "The Campaign for Virginia Tech: Invent the Future" totaled $683.5 million as of June 30. And fiscal year figures recently tallied by the university show that 2007-08 was the best fundraising year in the university's history.

Re: Have you looked for an update to this story? I did and can’t find one. When this shooting occurred, HokieSon was tending a Red Cross booth for disaster relief at a festival in Blacksburg. I did find this, though.
Still haven’t heard any updates on the guy.
Thanks, still nothing that I can find, either. Such an odd story.
