Leader of black Republicans sparks a backlash

At age 64, well into her retirement from the Army, Frances Rice is at the center of a contentious campaign on race and politics -- and she has never been happier.

Frances Rice, 64, grew up in Atlanta. She says growing up in poverty and segregation set her against the Democratic Party. Now, as she works to bring blacks to the ranks of the GOP, she says she feels that she is making a difference in politics. But her tactics are not winning everyone over. The leader of the Sarasota-based National Black Republican Association is a minority within a minority. Not only is she black, she is also a Republican, a member of a party to which fewer than 10 percent of black voters in Florida belong. Her campaigns -- including one meant to foil the nomination of the first black presidential candidate, Barack Obama -- are best known for their shock value.

Her messages have brought condemnation from Democrats. But they have also sparked a backlash among many Republicans.

No room for differing opinions?

Moscow, 1917, might be a better place for you, friend.

If you don’t believe AA is helpful, well then, I guess you’ve never been given the opportunity to advance ahead of others because of your skin color.

Now whether or not they take advantage of the help offered is another conversation entirely.

DU references are getting really old here...its becoming the FR equivalent of “Godwin’s Law.”

Since I really want to tie you in knots, heres a little question for you.

If AA/gov programs isn’t helpful to Blacks, it must not be harmful to people who aren’t Black. Is that your contention? So then, do you agree that AA has had no impact on non-Black people in America? DU indeed, my friend.

The article is a hit piece on her; I read the whole thing, and the “journalist” certainly seems to be looking for reasons to bash Ms. Rice.

I hope she succeeds.

P.S. by “she” in the above post, I meant Ms. Rice—NOT the journalist! :)

You spout a lot of 'Rat talking points. And as a newbie, you've got a lot of nerve bringing them to a conservative forum. (And don't give me the crap about being here before under a different name, or being a long time lurker.)

You're obviously too deluded to see what Democrat programs have "done for Blacks." Let's see:

The destruction of the black family via welfare.

Affirmative Action programs that set unqualified students up for failure in college.

The rise of black racism as an acceptable behaviour in our society.

Preferences being lavished on less than qualified people in the job market.

Defacto quota systems adopted in housing, education and employment.

Perhaps DU is too tame for you. Maybe Kos is more to your liking.

We used to have a disagreeable member here by the name of Dane. Looks like you're ready to fill his birkenstocks.

Thanks for the summary and the scorecard.

One other thing to remember, though -- When Civil Rights legislation was going through the US Senate, it was filibustered very heavily. Those leading the filibuster effort were, to the best of my knowledge, all democRATs, notably Senator Robert Byrd [former(?) Klan member] and Senator Al Gore, Sr.

This lady is using the race card...its amazing how much more palatable it becomes when its percieved to be in your favor...what a great weapon, eh?

By your logic, should the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Congressional Black Caucus be similarly scorned for playing the race card?

Please outline my ‘rat talking points. Was it where I said everyone was responsible for their own lot in life? Or was it where I said no one has an excuse for failing in America? You seem to be replying to an entirely different post than mine.

“The destruction of the black family via welfare”

Ok, that explains America...why do Blacks have the same ‘family problems’ in Africa, Haiti, Jaimaica, et al? No “Great Society” in those places. So obviously welfare didn’t ‘destroy’ the family, it was never there in great numbers TO BE DESTROYED. Thats what thousands of years of tribalism will do to your culture.

“Affirmative Action programs that set unqualified students up for failure in college.”

So if someone offers you something thats above your abilities, and you take it, and fail to rise to the challenge...thats their fault? Guess you’ve never been promoted into a more responsible position at work...why, your boss was just setting you up for failure. Isn’t a student responsible for his/her own preperation? Or is that Conservative? It must have been AA that set George Washington up as President...why, he was totally unqualified, he’d never led a country before. Oh wait, he (easily) rose to the challenge.

“The rise of black racism as an acceptable behaviour in our society.”

Black racism, like White racism, or Asian racism, has always existed, just like red ants have always fought black ants. I’m not sure how AA did this, however...its more the leftist media than anything that supports this double standard. Don’t forget the White people, Republicans as well, who tolerate it by not speaking against it. They’re complicit. Regardless, this is only related to AA on the periphery, best case, and AA is what we’re discussing. Next straw man?

“Preferences being lavished on less than qualified people in the job market.”

Isn’t that exactly my point? And thats not helpful to the Black person who is receiving the paycheck for the job? Ok...not sure where you’re going with this.

“Defacto quota systems adopted in housing, education and employment.”

I guess the Black home owner/renter, student, and employee doesn’t find it advantageous to themselves that they get this preferential treatment. Er.?

“Perhaps DU is too tame for you. Maybe Kos is more to your liking”

You’re projecting your frustrations. If you would converse, instead of being accusative, you might actually accomplish something.

“We used to have a disagreeable member here by the name of Dane. Looks like you’re ready to fill his birkenstocks”

I used to know a guy who had an IQ of 67. Maybe with AA you could fill his shoes. Aren’t random insults fun? So productive too.

You should really respond to my questions though, like I do to yours...otherwise you don’t look too, well, honest.

How can AA be harmful to non-Blacks if it isn’t even effective in helping Blacks? That was my very simple question to you.

I dunno, do you consider the National Association for the Advancement of White People to be a racial organization?

How about the Congressional White Caucus?

Lets not be coy, we both know they’re verboten, and a mainstream Republican would be best advised to stay far, far away, if he dreads the R word at all. What does a ‘Black Republican’ require that the GOP doesn’t have? (Besides the obvious, over the last 20 years, action, results, courage, fidelity, truth, aggression). Notice I said GOP here, not Conservatives.

If you set divisions for yourself, don’t be suprised if some people abide by them. To expect otherwise is hypocritical.

A prominent member of the filibuster was Republican Senator John G. Tower of Texas, I’m proud to day. This so-called “Civil Rights” legislation was pure Socialism in action.

Mindless insult? Guess you win via ad hominem. The message was too much for you, so lets go to the man. You win, I’m not going to go back and forth with you, as its completely pointless.

Do you have any idea of the vast numbers of people, on the internet right now, who instead of arguing ideas, insulted the man? You’re unique. Reply to my arguments, if you want a dialogue with me.

How can AA be harmful to non-Blacks if it isn’t even effective in helping Blacks? That was my very simple question to you.

And I answered it. Whites are denied opportunities because Affirmative Action has become a quota program. If you can't admit that, you're obviously part of the problem.

What's the point? You're spouting mindless generalities.

You say that if AA doesn't help blacks, then it can't hurt whites. Bull! An unqualified black person can be put into a college situation where his failure is virtually guaranteed, while keeping a qualified white person out. That hurts them both.

You have a legion of straw men today, don’t you?

I’m not sure how anyone could read what I wrote and get out of it that I’m for AA. Here is the one setence, out of a few paragraphs, that you orginally took issue with. You seem to be trying to shift the focus with every post. Here are my original words you quoted...

“I believe that Democrats may use Blacks, when politically expedient, but Democrat programs have done far more to help them...”

Seems simple enough to me...Democrats use Blacks, when convenient, but AA is a NET GAIN for Blacks. What is your issue with this?

You said AA doesn’t HELP Blacks, unequivocally. I said that quite obviously it does, whether as intended or not, because if you have a job you’re unqualified for, you still benefit, while others suffer.

I think you’re reading my original words wrong, or perhaps I didn’t state them clearly enough, my intention isn’t that Democrats have been helping Blacks, and its all working out hunky dory. I said AA has been a huge benefit to Blacks, and arguing that Democrats are the ‘true racists’ because of the negative aspects of AA doesn’t change the fact that its a net win for Blacks...who doesn’t love free stuff, preferential treatment?

Democrats want Blacks to be their ‘victim class,’ to use as a weapon. Some ‘Conservatives’ seem to covet their ability to do so. The real truth is you both (All Dems, some misguided Conservatives) act like Black people have no self will, and are only blobs that are effected by outside events. Its almost like Dems have a great weapon that you really want for your own use.

"Obviously we weren't consulted before she decided to do any of this," said Tony Cooper, president of the Tampa Black Republican Club. "It's a fruitless debate and it may conjure up more ill will toward the party. We should be spending money on debating the Democrats on the issues."

Hmmm. Looks like Ms. Rice is Churchill and old Tony Cooper is the Neville Chamberlain of appeasement to the democrats. You don't "debate" the enemy, you confront them! You defeat them! You go girl!!
