Workers at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.
A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility "implements a new holiday to accommodate the ... Muslim workers at the plant."
The RWDSU stated that "the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

This is my first thread and I hope I posted it correctly.
I didn’t see it listed when I did a search.
This could be coming to a town near you.
Ping
Another product we won’t be purchasing.
Best reason I can think of to by Perdue or Rosebud chickens.
We haven’t purchased any Tyson products for several years, and they just gave us another reason not to.
Oh goody....next they will sponsor a picnic for the mussies to rape children and cut heads off non mussies!
I certainly have no argument there. :-)
Oh gosh! Don’t give them any ideas!
“Oh goody....next they will sponsor a picnic for the mussies to rape children and cut heads off non mussies!”
Outside their hiring illegals and their crooked politics, the best reason for never buying anything by Tyson, which we havent since Clinton was elected, is that the rag heads don’t believe in toilet paper and will only shake hands with their left hand!
I saw the words “Tyson drops” and thought Mike was in some trouble again.
That IS a town near me.
Close to me, too. Way too close for comfort.
Yup. 2 counties away from me and 2 away from you.
The list of reasons for not buying their products is definitely long. They just keep making the list longer as time goes on.
ARTICLE SNIPPET from the link in post no. 1:
“The union also claimed that in addition to the observance of the Muslim holiday, “two prayer rooms have been created to allow Muslim workers to pray twice a day and return to work without leaving the plant.”
Mickelson said that Shelbyville’s Tyson plant “does have a prayer room to accommodate the needs of Muslim Team Members.”
“In addition to regular, non-paid breaks, all Team Members are allotted a seven-minute paid break,” the Tyson spokesman said. “Some Team Members choose to pray during this time.””
And a lot of people think that living in small-town America is so peachy.
There’s really no escape from the madness.
The Tyson spokesman was asked by one of the Nashville new stations if they had a prayer room set up for people of any other religions and he said no. But it’s because “no one has asked for one”.
Time for other employees to ask for one. They’ve been given the opening and need to jump in.
Whatever happened to having x-number of paid holidays per year and then picking your holidays?
Apparently, that flew out the window sometime back.
I can’t remember being given that option in a loooooooong time.
