Workers at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.
A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility "implements a new holiday to accommodate the ... Muslim workers at the plant."
The RWDSU stated that "the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

Hey there feather! Thanks for bumping by. :-)
Yep, a bit too close to home for comfort. Bet ya didn’t realize how much “fun” we can have in PodunkNowhere when you were here, huh? LOL!
Folks in the area have been on edge for a while now because of so many Somalians moving into such a small town. This isn’t doing anything to improve the situation.

Dang. That’s quite a list.
Since we live on a farm, maybe we need to just grow all our own meat, not just our pork.
That doesn’t help the masses who don’t live on farms, though, does it?
Whew!

Hey tx!
There are as many “ostriches” in the U.S. as there are in Europe. How to get their durned heads out of the sand is the big problem.
More than likely, the people who get upset over things like prayers before a football game and hanging the Ten Commandments in a courtroom will think this is just fine and dandy.

This PC drive to legitimize Islam as all-American is just sick and historically inaccurate. That Tyson gave into to this is a horror. American Muslims should be given all the rights of other Americans but to erase Labor Day for one of their holidays is silly and again, unhistorical. Fawning over Islam is what Britain, Spain, France and Germany have done and they have rued the day they did. And America learns nothing.

Oh, please. If they'd have asked for one before, they would have been told, "Hell, no!" You are probably right. I'm keeping my ears open to see if someone comes forward to say they did ask for a chapel and were turned down.

Hi JJ!!
Thanks for the bump. This issue needs to be kept in the forefront. I have the feeling Tyson isn’t the only corporation that is caving to these demands.
Maybe more will come to light.

Glad everyone remained calm while I was there. LOL Cept for the coyotes, they were a tad edgy.

Things were barely getting going when you were here, and we had no clue what was ahead.
A pox on the coyotes! We fear they got another cat this year. He disappeared around the same time a large pack was close by.

The Somalians are refugees, so they are here legally.
But they have caused many problems for the town and for it’s residents.

Those dang coyotes are growing in population around here! Coy Dogs, too. The Coy dogs have been around for a number of years, must be coyotes, too! Yikes. I think I rather like the little foxes.
Oh shucks on the lost cat. Dang.
To: Cindy
I don’t remember the last time I bought Tyson products.
Well, knowingly any way. They cover a lot more territory than I was aware of until this thread.

Please, I want you to care.
You don't now why you want us to ask the company to overrule the vote of the union members? Then why did you post the info?
