Holy snot! I hope it is true!
snips from Detroit Free Press
It lasted several hours, until about 5 p.m. — and ended with a rendition of “God Bless America.”
It was amazing. It was truly like the peoples house, said Rep. Mike Rogers, a Brighton Republican who had changed into shorts and sandals to begin his vacation before he got a message to come back to the chamber. Returning with his 11-year-old son Jonathan, he said he gave a speech to a standing ovation of other Republican members and tourists and got a high-five from his son when it was done.
Rep. Thad McCotter, a Republican from Livonia, said he and others were stunned to learn the majority Democrats — led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — not only blocked a vote on an energy bill but closed down the floor for traditional speeches following adjournment. Soon, even those Republicans who had left were returning, he said, alerted by cell phone.
First we cant vote for this, now we cant talk about it? asked McCotter. He and Rogers said the movement was a spontaneous one.
C-SPAN did cover a news conference just before 5 p.m. where many of the Republican members of the House called President George W. Bush to order Congress back into session and said they would remain on the floor to demand action on an energy bill. GOP members said they would continue to demand action on an energy bill even after they left the floor Friday.
Republicans and Bush have been agitating for a vote on a bill which would lift a moratorium on offshore drilling, arguing it could help bring down fuel prices and reduce American dependence on foreign oil. Many Democrats — including presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama — have said that drilling would do little, if anything, to cut gas prices but the proposal still enjoys strong support in some parts of the United States, including, according to some polls, in Michigan. But it is clearly a sensitive topic — an adjournment resolution passed 213-197 today, with 15 Democrats voting against the recess.
Meanwhile, Democrats have argued that Republicans have stymied their efforts to crack down on oil speculation and reduce oil reserves as a way to bring down gasoline prices.
The new direction Congress led by Democrats has offered real solutions to bring down energy costs, promote renewable fuels and energy efficiency, and promote oil production right here in America. But a majority of congressional Republicans have voted no each time, said Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for Pelosi. They should go home to their districts and explain their record of obstructing common-sense proposals to address the pain at the pump being felt by American consumers and businesses.
Expect it to be a big topic during the recess, with Republicans bringing up at every turn their accusation that Democratic leaders went on vacation while working families are struggling with energy costs. It also continues to point out a deep divide between the two parties going into the November elections.

I’ve had goosebumps off and on since noon. This day has potential like none we’ve seen. A day that could be the signal that liberty is yet ALIVE. The PEOPLES’ representatives would not be silenced.
‘God’s Will Be Done’..is always a nice one.
Leave the driving up to HIM...and our TROOPS!
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!
I had a rough time understanding your post without italics or quotes but realized they were all praises to Obama and not your comments. You’re a newbie here and may not know that extended excerpts from DU threads are not appreciated on FR, especially ones such as these which make it hard to know whether they are yours or Obama partisans.
“Ive had goosebumps off and on since noon.” Me too, but not up my leg— I swear.
Axelrod remarked, about Edwards, "he could just never seem to close the deal".
I strongly suspect that, some day, he'll be saying the same thing about Obama.
How ironic is that...???
