His aunt says he is undergoing major surgery for a broken back and broken heel. While he was lying on the ground, she wonders why Ozark police used an electric stun gun on him up to 19 times.
I'm not an officer, but i don't see the reason for Tasering somebody laying there with a broken back. I don't consider that a threat,
His dad says the use of the stun gun delayed what would have been immediate surgery by two days.
The Tasering increased his white blood cell count and caused him to have a temperature so they could not go into the operation.
He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, Shoot cops, kill cops, things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers, said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.
Police say although there are several unanswered questions; the reason for the use of a stun gun is not one of them.
It's a big concern for the officers to keep this guy out of traffic, to keep him from getting hurt, said Rousset.
Mace was still in intensive care on Wednesday night, listed in fair condition. He was scheduled for surgery again on Thursday.

Hope they family sues the departments lips off.
Ok, I'll risk the flames from LEO bootlickers who always gravitate to these posts and defend their brothers in blue no matter the circumstances.
I have 4 sons myself. I don't care what kind of cheap tin you have pinned to your shaved chest. Do this to one of mine: I'll hunt your @ss down and you'll suffer on your way to your own funeral.
Cheers,
Lloyd
Isn't about 1.21 Jigawatts?
Lloyd, I agree with you. I don’t care what he is mumbling, he is incapacitated for God sake! 19 times? He has a broken back and no gun in his hand. What, are the words gonna kill them?
That is just some sickos getting their jollies on a “cop killer” in their mind.
No flame from me.

I hope they sue that police department down to half its size.
I wonder if this is the fruit of Clinton's much vaunted "cops on the street" program: too many cops who are paranoid about their authority.
He must have gotten up 18 times, broken back and all....probably was so hopped up on PCP..um..uh..no, drugs were not found.....but he was probably so drunk....oh, ya, no alcohol......we he probably smarted off and you just don't smart off to a cop when you are at the top of an overpass.
If the kid ever remembers what happened the cops will make sure he forgets permanently.
The kid is in a long line of people who have been hurt or killed by criminals who carry a gun and a badge.
And no, I would not be the first to call a cop if I were in trouble....they tend to do more harm than good and I would end up shot, tased or beaten and the criminal would go free.
When I was a kid, I used to look up to policemen and respect them. These days they are just bullies with guns, no better than those they put in jail. Most are on power trips and have inflated egos.
No, I have never been arrested, no never in trouble with the law. I just see on a daily basis how corrupt and criminal their behavior is. Even the cop who attends my church is a major a$$ with a major attitude. If you have to be that way then don't do the job.....but what other job gives you the right to use a stun gun on a kid with a broken back 19 times and your boss doesn't bat an eye. What a disgrace.
AMEN!!! I’ll hold em down for ya!
Before the Taser, this man had no temperature. None at all.
If a thermometer had been placed in his mouth, it would have read: NONE
Lloyd, I used to be one of the cops. Not those.
I agree with you 100%!

Sometimes I do not understand the demeanor and actions of those who take up the shield and swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the several states and the local jurisdictions. Dammit, your first job is to take a bullet for the public, not torture them with your little technology packages.
I can tell you from experience that when you break your back, foot (and arm and wrist) after hitting a tire wall on a motorcycle at over 100 mph, you CAN be quite belligerent with those who approach you.
You can’t DO anything to them, you can’t move around, you can’t get up, you DEFINITELY can’t follow though on your threats and you may not remember anyhting about the accisent afterwards, but you CAN be VERY belligerent.
With that said, I can see NO excuse whatsoever for tasering a person who is lying on the ground with a broken back no matter how much noise he is making.
But we must remember: Cops don’t like belligerent! It goes against the prevelant “we run the show and you do what we say” mentality. Whether from a “dusted”-up mad man or a guy who just seriously injured himself falling off a bridge, cops DO NOT like belligerent!
You’re right; the cops only accept subservience, even in a routine traffic stop. The comments from the head cop is classic:
It’s a big concern for the officers to keep this guy out of traffic, to keep him from getting hurt, said Rousset.
Se we tasered him 19 times to keep him from getting hurt. LoL!
But, but, but, Tasers are harmless and cops would never use them as a way to punish someone for having a smart mouth! </sarc>
Two questions. How can anybody make up their mind on a story that is so poorly written that it leaves more questions than answers? Who made the diagnosis of broken bones on this young boy before the police officers had to deal with his situation? I was unaware that local hospital trauma teams were dispatched to calls before the police were permitted to intervene.
The story carries the key point: tasering someone 19 times to keep him from getting hurt...
