Bomb scare at BP station in Twinsburg
Bomb squad expodes a suspicious package. By Ken Robinson, Newsradio WTAM 1100 Check out Ken's personality page Thursday, July 31, 2008 (Twinsburg) - It was a strange day at a BP gas station in Twinsburg.
Twinsburg Police were called to the station at Route 82 and I-480 for a report of a man acting strangely. The man had gone into the store's bathroom with several items picked up from the store, and came out a short time later, naked and mumbling.
A scuffle broke out when police arrived, and the man was tasered and eventually restrained. He then made comments implying there were explosives in his car.
The Summit County Bomb Squad responded and removed two suspicious packages from the vehicle. No explosives were found. An investigation and charges are pending. The man was taken to Bedford Hospital for evaluation.
Witness Brian Bockhoff was making a delivery in the area and says he saw the bomb squad take what looked like a backpack to an area nearby and explode it.
Bockhoff reports he heard that two men got into a fight at the BP with one saying that he had a bomb. Bockhoff says officers from the Summit County Sheriffs Office, and other agencies assisted Twinsburg Police Department. The bomb squad retrieved the backpack from a vehicle at the BP.
Bockhoff says when the backpack was exploded it had a sound like a firecracker going off. He says traffic on route 82 was never blocked off during the ordeal.

How come we don’t hear about the “Hate speach” aginst “Big Oil” causing this like we do when a nut shoots up a “liberal” Univesalist church or such?
Rhetorical question alert.
Police explode backpack full of K-Y Jelly.............
Local chatter was that the perp was attempting to shave his body in the bathroom prior to being caught as he attempted to retrieve something from his car while still naked.
No description of naked wanna be bomber yet, heard he had a short fuse.
Just down the road a piece from me!
I was around the corner as it was going on, T-burg turning into a strange place.
Think this will be kept pretty quite, Twins Days starts today! Biggest thing in Twinsburg, they do not want any bad press.
“T-burg turning into a strange place.”
Changing demographics. Not yet here in the Center. But it’s coming!
Will be out to T-burg this afternoon to pick up a guitar.
Thought Gitter Picker closed down
Jeeze! I hope not! I was there two weeks ago and they say my guitar would be ready this weekend. When did this happen? Are you sure?
My mistake, another unfounded rumor. Those guys are cool bought a few guitars from them over the years. Hope I did not freak you out.
Just confirmed the naked bomber was of middle eastern decent.
Not mentioned in any news reports.
Nothing to see here, move along.
“Bockhoff says when the backpack was exploded it had a sound like a firecracker going off. “
If they blew up the backpack how could they tell?
Just heard bomb sniffing dogs made hit on his duffle bag.
This appears to be bigger than is being acknowledged.
Also the fight was with police officers. One of the officers was injured before they beat the snot out of naked idiot.
PHEW! You did freak me out! I took my favorite bottleneckin’ guitar out there for a new nut. 50’s Kay, kinda Jimmy Reed style. I would hate to lose that guitar!
Not a good time to mess with Twinsurg cops, this happened just over two weeks ago:
Twinsburg Officer Shot 4 Times In Head
Vigil Planned Tonight
POSTED: 9:28 am EDT July 13, 2008
UPDATED: 1:50 pm EDT July 14, 2008
TWINSBURG, Ohio — A Twinsburg K-9 officer was shot four times in the head during a traffic stop on Sunday.
A preliminary autopsy was done Monday on Officer Joshua Miktarian, 33. He had pulled a car over at about 2 a.m. when he was shot.
According to the Cuyahoga County coroner, only one bullet of medium caliber was found.
Police said Miktarian called for backup after pulling over Ashford Thompson, 23. They said Thompson fled and shot at Miktarian.
Officers said Thompson was pulled over because Miktarian heard loud music and thought Thompson might have been driving under the influence.
Dispatchers tried to reach Miktarian, and at the same time, a nearby resident called 911 to report hearing shouting and a popping sound.
The K-9 officer was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The German shepherd was in the car during the shooting.
After an extensive manhunt, Thompson was arrested by Bedford Heights police. A weapon was recovered upon his arrest. Police said that when they took Thompson into custody, he was still wearing a handcuff that had been attached by Miktarian.
Thompson is currently in Summit County Jail awaiting charges and a court appearance on Monday.
Miktarian leaves behind a wife, Holly, and 3-month-old daughter, Thea. Holly is a police officer in Oakwood Village.
Miktarian was also a part-time officer in Uniontown and owner of the pizza franchise Gionino’s Restaurant on Old Route 8 in Northfield. He was a guitarist in a rock band called Barium.
Vigils
Twinsburg officers’ wives plan to hold a candlelight vigil outside City Hall Monday night.
A makeshift memorial including photos of Miktarian, potted plants and American flags has sprouted there.
Friends and family also gathered for a vigil on Glenwood Drive at Route 91 in Twinsburg on Sunday night. That’s the same spot where Miktarian was killed.
One by one, friends and family of the 33-year-old officer took their chance to remember him.
“This will be a very hard week, but I know there’s a lot of prayers out there,” one man said.
“It shouldn’t have had to happen. It shouldn’t have had to happen to a good guy like Josh,” a fellow officer said.

2,000 Bikers Ride For Fallen Officer
POSTED: 10:42 am EDT July 26, 2008
UPDATED: 9:39 am EDT July 27, 2008
TWINSBURG, Ohio — Over 2,000 people took part in a local motorcycle run in honor of slain Twinsburg Officer Joshua Miktarian.
Miktarian was gunned down during a traffic stop earlier this month.
The event was hosted by the Greater Cleveland Police Scholarship Fund. The organization sponsors events to support the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
The 50-mile motorcycle run went from South East Harley Davidson to Twinsburg High School.
A memorial ceremony honoring Miktarian’s memory followed the ride.
About $20,000 was raised for Miktarian’s wife, Holly, and their 3-month-old daughter.

Heard it was more like $30,000.00. Was the best, although saddest runs I was ever on. The support from local riders for the police and Miktarian’s family was awe inspiring.
