Video: Sarah Palin on the Wooten “scandal” and on being VP
hotair.com ^ | July 31, 2008 | Allahpundit

Posted on 07/31/2008 6:53:40 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Get yourself up to speed by reading this nifty recap from Monday’s Anchorage Daily News. Nutshell version: She fired Walt Monegan, her commissioner of Public Safety, for reasons that are unclear. Monegan claims it was because he refused to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, Palin’s former brother-in-law against whom she’s supposedly had a longstanding vendetta. What’s her problem with Wooten? Like I say, read the ADN piece, which is brimming with colorful nuance involving tasers and “f’ng lead bullets.” She insists the Monegan decision had nothing to do with family issues, but the state legislature voted this week to order a probe, which is probably enough to scare McCain away in case he was thinking of going in this direction.

She doesn’t give a hoot about national coverage! She is governing just as Jindal does, and doesn’t want anything to do with McCain.

Right on dude... (dated vernacular?)

Not sure I liked her disparaging the veep job—Larry picked up on that as well—and the dropping of her g’s drives me crazy, but she is tough and intriguing and if Barack picks Kaine I think McCain should pick her.

I’m not sure why everybody is pushing Palin. Sarah Palin is in no way qualified or ready to be Vice President. Heck, McCain is 72 years old. The VP selection better well be damn ready to step in as Commander-in-Chief the first day. She was only a Mayor of a small city and governor just since 2006. I don’t see why people are trying to push her so soon. Give her another 4-8 years before even thinking about throwing her on the national stage. Just her reaction that she doesn’t even know what a VP does shows she’s nowhere near ready to face the scrutiny. Putting her on the ticket negates one of the few positives McCain can throw at Obama...that he lacks the necessary experience for the job.

I don't think she was disparaging the position inasmuch as she was stating what her role as VP would be outside of its Constitutional authority.

Yes, I agree. I have seen a lot of hysteria on these boards for Sarah Palin. This is the very first time I have seen her in action, and she is definitely too green for the Vice Presidency. I have never heard a serious politician use the word “cool” like she did.

What’s all the fuss about?

I think not. She’s rarin’ to get into this probe, seemingly daring them to bring it on.

She’s a good Conservative, smart, fiscally balanced, and could really help us right now, we need her.

She is the kind on Conservative that McCain needs to get my, and many others’, votes.

Use what? A probe that vindicates her?

She’ll beat them back with half her brain tied behind her back.

Besides, woman will bond with the underlying issue...a big Sister protecting her younger Sister from an evil ex husband. Yeah, especially the Dem females will go for that. LOL

I agree. I would support a McCain/Palin ticket with word, and money.

Honestly, the one thing that comes through strongest from her is, integrity.

I’m not sure why everybody is pushing Palin.

Maybe because the choices for VP are grim for McCain?

Sarah Palin is in no way qualified or ready to be Vice President.

She has ethics and integrity, and a willingness to buck the status quo. That alone more than makes up for her lack of elected experience.

Heck, McCain is 72 years old. The VP selection better well be damn ready to step in as Commander-in-Chief the first day.

I don't think the unfortunate is going to happen to McCain mere seconds after being sworn into office. He'll probably last for the term and hopefully step down in 2012. That four years would give Palin all the experience she needs to take over.

She was only a Mayor of a small city and governor just since 2006.

She has been in elective office since 1992. That's a solid 16 years of public service, despite the fact that it's localized and in the nation's 2nd least-populated state. Neverthelesss, it's still experience, IMO that far outweighs Obama's.

I don’t see why people are trying to push her so soon.

Well, you have to understand that there's a lack of young, conservative Republicans ready to step up, especially at Governor, which is the logical choice for McCain. You need to start looking at the future instead of at the past.

Give her another 4-8 years before even thinking about throwing her on the national stage.

She's going to be in the running in 2012 anyway. Why wait for a good thing instead of now? I think she's ready.

Just her reaction that she doesn’t even know what a VP does shows she’s nowhere near ready to face the scrutiny.

She knows what it is, she probably disagrees with the mundane tasks the VP has to do. There's nothing wrong with healthy criticism of the VP position. John Adams criticized the VP position too.

Putting her on the ticket negates one of the few positives McCain can throw at Obama...that he lacks the necessary experience for the job.

She has more experience than Obama. 16 years in elective office.

She’s more qualified to be Veep than is Obama for POTUS.

Also, look at the enormity of the work she’s accomplished. And, she’s more Conservative than McManiac himself!

I like her use of “cool”. I’m 55 and I use “cool”. And I have guns, believe in the Constitution, Pro Life, drill here, drill now, just like Palin does.

You need to read more. She’s accomplished more in that formerly corrupt State than the last four Governors have.

BTW, just how much “hysteria” can you see in 2 months of FReeping?

Cool?

I just listened to it once through, so I may not have got the nuance right. But it sounded to me like she was saying it wasn’t even worth talking about unless she knew that the position would be substantial enough to interest her and well serve the people of Alaska by having her serve as veep—when I don’t think the VP of the US should focus on what she can do specifically for Alaskans in that role.

My only point here is that she doesn’t have an ideal level of seasoning to step up to the national spotlight, but if the circumstances are right for now for her, we’ll just count on her being a quick study for it.

Maybe I caught her on a bad day. I will watch for her again. I notice that McCain is not using her for a surrogate this weekend on the Sunday shows.

Meet the Press: Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman.

Face the Nation: McCain adviser Carly Fiorina and ex-Treasury Sec. Robert Rubin.

This Week: Speaker Nancy Pelosi and ex-Gov. Tom Ridge.

Fox News Sunday: Sen. Lindsey Graham.

I think the more people see what her accomplishments are, they’ll she what potential we have in her.

Unless he dies in office and she’s put in the position of answering an attack. A female American President would be subject to the same sort of miscalculation (or maybe not a miscalculation) from our enemies that’s bound to occur if Male Model Obama get elected. I don’t know. And Bobby Jindal? No please. Same reason. And he’s Indian and India and Pakistan have this thing going, in case you haven’t heard. It’s called a tepid nonstop border war. We would be getting into that area with both feet if Jindal woke up President one day.

Presidents are good for 3 things. Stopping congress, scaring enemies and picking judges. Scaring enemies is actually number one.
