A police SWAT team raided the home of the mayor in the Prince George's County town of Berwyn Heights on Tuesday, shooting and killing his two dogs, after he brought in a 32-pound package of marijuana that had been delivered to his doorstep, police said.

How does the homeowner know the contents of an unopened postal delivery? For all he knew, his wife ordered Kansas City beef.

no i called it a good raid because they got what they were looking for and no one was hurt.

but i have consistently questioned the reasoning for their tactics. but i do not question the raid itself.

and as i had stated earlier in this thread, those guys in minneapolis are a joke. i would have not shown up for that medal ceremony.

Reading comprehension wasn't your strong suit was it.

Full quote is, "I smell a cop trying to justify..." You'd already outed yourself as a LEO, I'm outing you as someone trying to work his way around to feeling good about the fact that his actions are on the wrong side of the Constitution and it's Founding principles.

I'd be delighted to be wrong on this one, but you've got "wanna-be Storm Trooper" plastered all over your posts...

I live in the area, and the radio reported that the mayor said, “Well they should know it was marijuana, since they’re the ones who delivered it.”

I agree. They’re out of control.

Stop whining and start the revolution.

Regarding the search warrant, the county sheriff claims to have executed one:

“btw, personal insults make you look silly and small.”

Yeah. I know. I’m sorry. I regretted it a half second after I pushed the button.

In all seriousness though, when you are on a forum filled with (mostly) like minded folks who seem to overwhelmingly disapprove of these kinds of tactics, how do you continue to justify these raids to yourself?

I understand loyalty to your brothers in blue, but why try to defend the indefensible? There are way too many ‘roided up Rambos out there, and frankly, I’m a lot more scared of them than I am a stadium full of potheads.

There are times and circumstances that DO dictate this type of action. But more and more we see them being used in situations where they are plainly NOT called for.

This is BAD public relations policy for cops. I have to tell you that I use to work side by side with a lot of cops as an EMT, and I respected them greatly. It’s a tough job.

But I’ve lost much of that respect for the police because of this type of behavior. It seems like a whole new generation of cops with a totally different concept of “Protect and Serve”.

Again, sorry for the stupid remark I made. It was uncalled for.

Tough - no, mostly writing traffic tickets.

Thankless - yes, but they brought it on themselves with attitude.

Stop whining and start the revolution.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammo...

Do we need the whole "1 if by land, 2 if by sea" kind of thing?

i am fully capable of being the storm trooper of whom you speak. but i have chosen to take a different route in my career.

and yes the constitution guards against unreasonable search and seizure. i, and the law, however see this circumstance as very reasonable.

overzealous? perhaps. but that is not for me to decide. i wasn't there. it seems many posters on this thread were there, though.

It was a good bust, and I think they’ll find enough evidence to connect SOMEONE in the mayor’s house to a drug gang.

I feel bad about the dogs.

Maybe it is something to do with quotas forcing out the good public servants.

I think it has to do with the fact that you can now be a cop without military experience, which was an unwritten prerequisite at a time when this type of thuggery didn't happen on a daily basis. This explains the utter incompetence and lack of discipline we see.

“32 pounds is a hell of a lot of weed to waste in a setup.”

Who says it was wasted?

Cops can use the same weed next time they want to set someone up, or they can sell it, or smoke it. It's their weed, they can do whatever they want with it.

That’s interesting - given that the police delivered the package, then waited for the mayor to innocently carry it in the house, then reaided the house, shot the dogs, and found an unopened package -

It seems a clear case of entrapment.

And as Shakespeare once opined, "the Law is an ass". More importantly, the Founders themselves regarded any law passed by the States or Congress that ran contrary to the Constitution as "no law". Part of that whole Art 6 para 2 thingie you and the rest of the law business types like to overlook as it helps you justify your paycheck.

Raids like this are not just bad "policy". From a Constitutional/Freedom stand point... they are downright evil. And that isn't just hyperbole speaking there.

They have no place in any Country trying to kid itself into thinking it's still based on "freedom" at all.

“No law enforcement here to speak of, just a continuation of the perpetual employment bonanza of a failed policy utilizing fabricated fear to justify state terror.”

That’s the best definition of the “War on Drugs” that I’ve ever seen.

“but now you’ll tell me that the cops planted the 32 pounds of weed simply to discredit him and had no intention of bringing him in.”

Sounds to me like they just wanted to shoot his dogs. One of them was running away from them when it was shot.

Cheye (pronounced Shi) seems to favor drivers licenses for illegals:

“Cheye Calvo
National Conference of State Legislatures

Cheye (pronounced “shi”) Calvo directs the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) transportation and financial services committees and represents state legislatures in our federal system of government on banking, insurance, securities and transportation issues. Cheye played a leading role in efforts to create state-friendly federal driver’s license standards as part of the intelligence reform in December 2004 and more recently in opposing the driver’s license provisions of the REAL ID Act. Cheye has spoken, testified and written extensively on a wide range of public policy matters, and has co-authored and co-edited studies on human genetics policy, genetic privacy, and auto insurance ratemaking. He also serves as the part-time, elected mayor of the Town of Berwyn Heights, Maryland.”

...I wonder if he has friends in Mara Salvatrucha 13?
