Alaska's Palin Faces Probe Star GOP Governor To Be Investigated For Abuse of Office By JIM CARLTON July 31, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- When Sarah Palin was elected governor as a Republican outsider in 2006, she didn't just take on an incumbent from her own party. She took on Alaska's Republican establishment.

Ms. Palin vowed to clean up a long-cozy political system that had been sullied by an FBI corruption investigation. She endeared herself to Alaskans by making good on her reform promises and showing homey touches, like driving herself to work.

Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper.

What has happened to the WSJ since Murdock ‘s Obama lovin son took over ?

The Journal's reporting, especially its political reporting, has been notoriously slanted to the left of the middle of the main stream for decades. That is why the Murdock takeover was so popular around here.

I think it’s in the best interest of the child that she not run for VP.

So when did the interests of her child become your business?

So when did the GOP choose Rockefeller to lead the party? I was at the 1964 convention where he was loudly booed (yes I know he wanted the delegates to boo him).

The Left will try to indict and investigate as many Republicans as possible before November. It's their only shot a at a filibuster-proof majority. Then, it's all over for conservatives.

Like Orrin hatch said, the feds had all info they needed on Stevens over a year ago. It could have been done and over with by now.

Ever since I was granted the right to comment on public officials' lives...pretty much since I was born, I think.

public officials' lives.

I don't know by what right you can judge, sight unseen, someone else's care of their children, public official or not.

Two feet high in the yard, coming in the house. Everybody is living in the school for now, or in their motorhome if they have one, in the school parking lot. Great place to own a boat, except times like this week.

The guy zaps his own 10 year old kid with a Taser???????

If you re-read the article it said "stepson", so it wasn't his kid, which makes it even worse imnsho. Should have been fired for that alone, as at a minimum, it demonstrates lack of any judgement whatsoever...

Seems to me to be a clear attempt to keep Ms. Palin off the GOP ticket — because she would be a spectacular addition to the ticket.

Beware of special interests, wherever they are and on which ever side of the aisle they are found. As the great Ronald Reagan said: “the first and last goal of the bureacracy is to protect and expand the bureacracy.” (probably a bad paraphrase)

Thanks - getting kinda lonely with all the Palinestas chiiping in.

I guess folks don’t read thru all the posts.

I consider SOrry Sara a RINO at best.

Others can draw thier own inferences based on what Sara does - NOT what Sara says.....

She may have a cute a**, but it is still OUR gas...... two years and we are no futher along that when (shudder) Frankie was running things.

I've nothing against small producers, but 3-8 million dollars in the oil industry is not a large investment, and they are exactly that- a small producer.

Alaska is still a decent place for oil companies to do business...ask BP how things are going over in Russia.

Alaska has some of the highest in the nation because that’s the only real source of income the state has

Oil is certainly a dominant economic force, but the misconception is that it is the only major economic force in the state. There are many other major industries in Alaska- mining, forestry, air freighting and defense are huge here. However, oil accounts for ~85% of the state govt. revenue, and people treat it the industry like it is a never-ending ATM. There are many people who live here and 'work' as an artist/musician/professional tourist/etc, and demand numerous public services and handouts while remaining utterly clueless where money comes from, and since they don't pay income taxes, seem indifferent to how it is managed.

Again, it has become more difficult for the major producers (the ones who make up the majority of oil produced and revenue generated) to produce oil and transition to gas under her administration.

Tax something to death, eventually it dies.

I’d say she might be to the right of a RINO, how far, well...

She is pro-gun (have to be to run in AK), favors drilling ANWR (would it happen though?), and seems to have good family values.

However, she slows/stops progress developing resources that, by the state constitution, are owned by the citizens of AK and would ensure economic stability of the state.

Politically for McCain, I think she would add value to his campaign, but I would like to see someone who is a conservative run as his VP.

I’m not saying I like the higher tax rate, I’m just saying that considering the situation, they had to do something. Murkowski’s tax plan was the result of legislators being bribed. People are in jail. The 25% WAS suggested during his admn. until someone was bought off. Of course the oil companies are going to complain and say it’s going to hurt production. They’re goal is to make as much profit as they can. Nothing wrong with that. I’m don’t think they’re “evil” but of course they’re going to argue against anything that hurts their bottom line. The new tax system isn’t as awful as “The Anchorage Times” gripes about constantly. It’s not difficult for the majors to produce here.
