Last update: 2:06 p.m. EDT July 30, 2008 WASHINGTON, July 30, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to remarks by President Bush on energy this morning at the White House: "The President knows, as his own Administration has stated, that the impact of any new drilling will be insignificant - promising savings of only pennies per gallon many years down the road. Americans know that thanks to the two oilmen in the White House, consumers are now paying $4 a gallon for gas. But what Americans should realize is that what the President is calling for is drilling as close as three miles off of America's pristine beaches and in other protected areas. "The President has failed in his economic policy, and now he wants to say, 'but for drilling in protected areas offshore, our economy would be thriving and the price of gas would be lower.' That hoax is unworthy of the serious debate we must have to relieve the pain of consumers at the pump and to promote energy independence. "Today, the New Direction Congress will vote on legislation to bring down gas prices by taking crucial steps to curb excessive speculation in the energy futures market. The President himself could lower prices by drawing down a small portion of our government oil stockpile, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. SOURCE Office of the Speaker of the House

Pelosi’s “hoax” talking point is just asinine.
Bush, bring these bast*rds back from recess and make them debate and vote on this issue. Do that and you’ll have scored enough points to make up for your dismal showing these past several months...
Better yet, declare a state of emergency, and mandate that drilling in ANWR and gulf start.
Don’t just vent your anger here, get out and do something! Every time you fill up, let everyone around you know why the price is so high. Write letters to the editor debunking this moron. Call your congressman every time you fill up and thank him for the high prices. Call the White House!
Not a chance.
Yo SanFranGran, YOU are a hoax and unworthy of the office you hold!!!
Bush needs to call a special session NOW and expose these clowns to Joe Sixpack. No R&R for congress until we get a resolution to this energy crisis!
"Paging Adam Smith! Paging Adam Smith! Economic illiterate on aisle 5 needs cleanup."
If you like $4/gal, Thank No Drill Nancy. If you want $10, Vote No Oilbama.
Pray for W and Our Troops
You go girl!.........9%.........8%...........7%..........6%................-2%..............
I defy anyone to stand up to as much as he has, and have nearly the same amount of success.
You ideological purists, who probably are the same ones who protest voted in 2006 that led to this "see you next Tueday" as Speaker, are going to get us nothing in return. And then you'll be wishing for "the President that needed to 'grow a pair'".
I am not an ideological purist, thank you. I disagreed with W on his stance on illegal immigration and his unwillingness to listen to his base on the issue. I also disagreed with much of his wasteful spending. Likewise, I don't particularly like much of what McCain embodies, but I intend on holding my nose and voting for him because the alternative is unthinkable to me. I NEVER voted Democrat to "make a point" nor have I EVER failed to vote in any election or primary since I was old enough to vote.
I am entitled to criticize the president for failing to stand up to Nancy on this or any other issue. Until recently, W did NOT make a case for drilling. I am glad that he did and I think that is why prices are falling as they are. I don't, however, want him to stop now or for any of the GOP to become complacent regarding our need for energy independence.
Forget the price, Nancy. We need to assure we have enough oil to continue our lifestyle, it’s in the interest of our national security. We bought Alaska so we could have it’s resources so let’s commence with the drilling already.
great one
Excellent !!
There, fixed it much better.
IMHO
EXCELLENT!!!
Whatever happened to the radio campaign I forgot which radio show it was where the host was urging everyone to mail their representatives a drill bit? Drill bits of all sizes,, the time has come to start a new drill bit campaign.
The democrats love to open the door right in their face. Or the American voters are really as stupid as they think.
