WASHINGTON The number of chronically homeless people living in the nations streets and shelters has dropped by about 30 percent from 175,914 to 123,833 from 2005 to 2007, Bush administration officials said on Tuesday.
Housing officials say the statistics, which are collected annually from more than 3,800 cities and counties, may reflect better data collection and some variation in the number of communities reporting. But officials also attribute much of the decline to a policy shift promoted by Congress and the administration that has focused federal and local resources on finding stable housing for homeless people suffering from drug addiction, mental illness or physical disabilities, long deemed the hardest to help in the homeless population.

Nonsense. The Clinton Administration solved homelessness, just like they promised.
Shouldn’t that be ‘Minorities, Women and Children Most Affected’?
OK, I’ll say it... Bush’s fault!
Bank on it being ignored by the MSM. It certainly won’t make the nightly news, or at best it will be mentioned in passing. Doesn’t fit the template and it won’t help Obama.
>>>Shouldnt that be Minorities, Women and Children Most Affected?
Yes I totally messed up the punchline. It should be “Minorities, Women and Children Hardest Hit”.
Darn the software that doesn’t allow editing.
All the homeless I have seen out here in South California are white—most look like burned out Hippies. No minority homeless. Maybe they have too much pride to beg on the street.
“U.S. Reports Drop in Homeless Population”
1) Bush’s Fault
I’ve noticed more homeless people in Manhattan these days, especially “slacker” types with luggage on wheels in addition to the usual population of schitzo aluminum can collectors.
In New York, the homeless were largely middle aged to elderly black men with drug and mental illness problems, largely due to the fact that women and children got priority in the shelters. Over the past five years, however, I’ve seen an increase in white “slacker” types on the streets.
Democratic Congress: Homeless problem cured.
Republican Congress: Homeless a huge problem.
Anyone remember when that fraud, homeless “expert” Mitch Snyder asserted back in the eighties that there were more than two or three million homeless in America? Someone (?) checked the figures and determined that Snyder (who unfortunately committed suicide a few years later) lied about the figures by more than tenfold.
