I’d say it’s a trap for McCain. Nothing really to benefit from saying anything, really. This election is about McCain and Obama; not Ted Stevens.

Political corruption has been perfected to a fine art by the Democratic party - commentators marvel at their finesse.

The Republicans don’t tolerate crooks in their midst — the Rats celebrate theirs!

I think from McCain's point of view there is no point in antagonizing the entire state of Alaska. Even if they might be tired of him no one likes to see it piled on when shame is brought to your state.

Also it looks like Stevens is on the way out. There are several ways he can go out. Why would McCain jump all over it with glee and tempt the guy to exit in a way (or hang around), in a way that would damage McCain's national efforts.

These guys are kinda’ dumb for not pointing this out on a POLITICAL morning discussion.

This is the John McCain Republican party versus the Ted Stevens Republican party.

That's pretty sad. The overwelming number of Republicans are neither McCain nor Stevens Republicans.

Kicking a guy when he’s down is pretty classless. Let the wheels of justice take care of Stevens.

I beleive McCain has already made a statement about this, but I don’t have the quote.

They don’t understand that the Democrat party is the party of gloating.

I suspect that Stevens’ indictment has more to do with Democrats in the U.S. Attorney’s office using their position for political purposes than it does with Stevens’ corruption. Consider that his indictment comes down three months before he’s up for re-election.
