An aide to U.S. Sen. Jim Webb was found dead alongside a Botetourt County road yesterday, according to a Richmond newspaper.
Frederick Wayne Hutchins Jr., 26, apparently had been shot once in the head and a gun was found under his body, the Richmond Times Dispatch was reporting. The body was discovered outside his vehicle on an embankment on U.S. 220 near Fincastle.

Isn’t Webb the Senator who was found to be illegally transporting or possessing a handgun in Washington, D.C.?
it was another aide of his, named Thompson

Speculation: Location and circumstance tend to rule out a random act, since it’s doubtful he would have pulled off for anyone he didn’t know.
That leaves the next question: Did he get shot there, or was he deposited there?
Condolences to Frederick Wayne Hutchins Jr.’s family and friends.
Sounds like no suicide note was found. If he was on a country road he was probably there to meet someone for something secret. The article didn’t say where in the head he was shot. Some of the official “suicides” of Clinton associates were people shot from behind in the back of the head.
Suicide is doubtful, as I would think the gun hand would be flung backwards by recoil, leaving it somewhat away from the body, not underneath.
The implications of this are rather frightening, actually, if there was any political motivation to it. I fear this one is going to remain unsolved.
I checked Facebook and Myspace for this person and nothing comes up. Not saying he would of or should of had an account with either, but lots of “kids” in their mid-20s or younger are on at least one “social networking” site.
Maybe he had talked extensively with Webb’s other aide, the one who was busted at that airport last year. And he was about to come forth with some info that Webb wouldn’t want broadcast to the media. Who knows...
In any case, this will be an interesting case to follow, IMO.
If the gun truly was found under him (and first reports are most often wrong), it matters if he fell on it or it was under him in such a way that it had to have been placed there.
Also will be interested to know if they can determine whose gun it was.
Something told me early on that Jim Webb’s Senate term would be occasionally punctuated with gunfire.
Yes, but Botetourt County is a long way from Washington. It would be weird to drive 3.5 hours just for a meeting.

US 220 is a main highway. I believe it is still 4 lanes in that area, though I don’t get out that way much.
I spoke with a guy who drove by the vehicle after it had been discovered by law enforcement yesterday morning, and he stated that it was stopped along a long straight stretch.
Not if he “ate his gun”.
I find it noteworthy that they are studiously *not* suggesting suicide, though.
“The article didnt say where in the head he was shot.”
He was shot in the head near Fincastle, Va.
I did not claim to speak as an expert, just speculation. If that offends you, my deepest, humblest apologies. I certainly did not mean to trouble you with having to refute my speculation or come up with any witty comeback. I do regret having wasted your time, my time, and the time of the authorities who most certainly were reading my post in their frantic search for assistance in their jobs.
Fer cryin' out loud. It's 7:30 AM and I'm thinking out loud on a forum. Ease up.
Couple other politicians I’d like to wake up and read were found dead along a road somewhere.
