JOHN MCCAIN, MITT ROMNEY
Pawlenty or Romney?
The individual who told me yesterday that he had heard McCain's pick is coming soon, and that it was Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, now tells me that McCain's list is down to Pawlenty or Mitt Romney.
I urge readers to take this with the requisite caution. Neither man's schedule has had any last-minute changes or cancellations, which to me is a leading sign of an announcement being lined up. Pawlenty is still scheduled to speak before the American Legislative Exchange Council tomorrow, and Romney is on vacation in New Hampshire until next week. (Or so the media is told.) He's also scheduled to attend the Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Beijing.)
Thanks for a very interesting link.
Virgina might be a swing state, but Cantor is from an extremely safe, ultra Republican district within Virginia. His district is going to vote Republican by lopsided margins whether he's on the ticket or not.
Virgil Goode or Randy Forbes would be better known conservative Virginia congressman, and from more competative districts to boot.
If Romney had been walking his talk these past years he'd be fine.
Pawlenty strikes me as just another go along to get along moderate Republican. I think we've had enough of that.
I totally agree and I believe he could deliver MN.
Romney.
The answer starts with Paw who? I know, he’s the governor of frostlandia. But he’s got virtual 0 name recognition among the great unwashed.
Romney gets my vote...and with an eye towards the future, I expect he will be a very popular President as well.
IMO, Business is the creative mechanism by which America has achieved its power and prominence in the world. Knowing how to nurture a healthy economy is a very valuable skill in a Chief Executive.
Choosing Romney for VP is in my mind a big confidence builder moving forward.
None of the above. I think Pawlenty would prove to be a
lightweight like Quayle. No on Mitt “make every promise
you have to” Romney for obvious reasons.
I think Fred Thompson would be good. Not that I was for
him in the primaries. He’s an actor , he would be good
on the VP stump in the “role”
Mitt Romney is independent of commitments to other elected offices. Both Governor Pawlenty and Governor Palin have committed to govern the citizens of their respective states. Republicans cannot afford to lose either governor, particularly with so many of our congress persons already in jeopardy this year. With Senator Stevens on the brink of legal catastrophe, the GOP in Alaska will have to run another candidate for that office and they do not need to risk the governorship at this time. I see Romney as the logical choice of the three potential VPs most mentioned on this thread.
I thought Fred was the answer too ... but he didn’t persue the Presidency with any real desire. He would not want the VP slot ... no real desire.
Pawlenty or Romney?,

For janitor at McDonalds ????
Romney, I guess
he’s got more experience with the back and forth sweeping thingy...
That’s if he doesnt let that ego stop him from finally landing a real job...
after pounding the pavement for the last 2 years...
Or is it 6 years ???
Stop the denial, please.
Rudy Guliani was 10 times more liberal than Romney ever was (in your mind)-- so why wasn't there endless threads about Rudy's past... with cutsy hateful names, or criticizing Rudy's religion, or his Italian heritage?
Where were the websites dedicated to posting 20 year old snippets of Guliani, accompanied by distortions of his quotes... or criticism of Rudy's Roman Catholic religion.
It's obvious that a segment on FR and indeed in the evangelical GOP is so rabidly anti-Mormon that they can't see their own distortions.
There are many many Republicans who have grown more conservative over the years (including Reagan, Gingrich, etc) yet no one seems obsessed with launching tirades against THEIR faith, against their current positions, etc.
WHAT is this hate filled obsession about Romney? It must be a mental disease, that's all I can figure.
Rudy was never a factor in the race though and I doubt he is on the short list for VP.

It starts with Mitt being a liberal who flip flops to run for president. Then his supporters start accusing everyone else of being bigoted. One of the big problems I have with Mitt is the dishonesty of his supporters on talk radio.
When Huckabee got something like 40% of the evangelical vote, Rush talked about the stupid Christian identity voters for days, but when ~100% of Mormons voted for Mitt, I didn't hear him talk about how Mormons were just voting for him because of his religion.
Its quite clear to me that the Huckabee supporters weren't identity voters at all while the Mitt supporters were. Rush and the other talk show hosts lied like crazy to smear Huckabee on this while trying to cover for Mitt.
Another odd thing was when no one on the radio took Mitt to task for saying he would mandate universal health care if he was elected. I've heard Rush et al rant for years against this but when Mitt proposes it, they have nothing to say.
Now these same talk radio hypocrites and liars are pushing the liberal $50 abortion Mitt for VP. It makes some of us a little bit upset.
Oh by the way, who owns Clear Channel? Isn't Mitt's Bain Capital purchasing it? I wonder if the owners are all Mormon Mitt supporters. It could explain why the radio hosts are all lock step marching to Mitt's tune.
Where's that roll of tin foil again??
I might need some after reading THAT!
Hey, EVERYBODY is 4 inches taller than McCain.
