JOHN MCCAIN, MITT ROMNEY
Pawlenty or Romney?
The individual who told me yesterday that he had heard McCain's pick is coming soon, and that it was Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, now tells me that McCain's list is down to Pawlenty or Mitt Romney.
I urge readers to take this with the requisite caution. Neither man's schedule has had any last-minute changes or cancellations, which to me is a leading sign of an announcement being lined up. Pawlenty is still scheduled to speak before the American Legislative Exchange Council tomorrow, and Romney is on vacation in New Hampshire until next week. (Or so the media is told.) He's also scheduled to attend the Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Beijing.)
Romney:
Pawlenty:
None of the above.
I was thinking about voting for McCain.
His recent backsliding on Social Security (increasing the taxes on the motivated, but not their benefits) make me wonder.
Adding Romney to the mix would make me vote third party -— and give money and time third party.
If it has to be one of those two, I would go with Romney all the way.
Romney is the more energetic campaigner, and I can visualize him getting under Obama’s skin.
Pawlenty will be about as effective as Dan Quayle was.
McLame needs to do something gutzy... oh nevermind.
Agree. Romney.
Pawlenty is vacant. And he looks and comes across wormly. That choice would be so weak and disturbing to most that it would be hello President Obama.
At this point voting third party does little except jeopardize the future U.S. Supreme Court. Grit you teeth and put your X in the Republican square.
Excellent point!
I am putting money on Pawlenty. If Obama picks Kaine in an attempt to pull VA, McCain is almost forced to counter with Pawlenty and flip Minnesota.
Romney has charisma. He has gravitas, intellect, and is media savvy. And he has been vetted completely.
With Pawlenty, the press will have a field day digging up the most insignifigant of items and blowing them out of proportion... and the McCain campaign does NOT have the time to be fending off baloney.
ROMNEY is the best pick, tried and true, with good economic credentials.... something McCain sorely lacks.
GO ROMNEY!!
It doesn’t matter who is selected to hold the applause sign.
EXACTLY!
Pawlenty, while a nice enough guy, leaves me totally UNimpressed.
With McCain/Pawlenty... it will be like Mr Boring and Mr. More Boring....
Puhleeze McCain campaign... do the right thing and pick Mr. Romney. If people can't accept Romney's denomination, then quite frankly, they shouldn't even be in the Republican Party because that goes EXACTLY against what being a Republican is all about.

Kaine's election in Virginia was under very similar circumstances-- an incompetent opponent. I have family and friend in both states, so I know.
As for Romney, I can't tell you a whole lot about him beyond the observation that he can't be all bad considering they type of people who absoltuely loath him.
Romney
thompson
Rudy
this candidate needs to be seen by the greater electorate as 1st-day presidential material due to McCain's age.
Pawlenty and Palin would both be disasterous from that point of view.
bump
What about gaining MI with Romney?!
Thank the RNC for that.
