Federal officials try to block Texas execution to allow review of case

Fourteen years and numerous judicial reviews have passed since José Medellin was sentenced to die after confessing to the brutal gang rape and murder of two teenage girls in Houston.

JOSÉ MEDELLIN That's long enough, state officials say. It's time to carry out the sentence.

But defense attorneys, and an unusual coalition of federal officials, including no less than the attorney general and secretary of state, say if his Aug. 5 execution is not stayed, so Mr. Medellin's case can be reviewed one more time at the behest of the International Court of Justice, Texas will be rushing to judgment and endangering Americans abroad.

Randy and Sandra Ertman, the parents of one of Medellin’s victims, also have weighed in. In a court brief filed on their behalf by the California-based Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, the Ertmans argue that their 14-year-old daughter’s rights, and the rights of other victims, will be given short shrift if the justices further delay the “already long-overdue execution of this well-deserved sentence.”

“This case has produced much lofty discussion about international law and the separation of powers. We must not forget, though, that this case is about a real crime against real people,” they wrote. “Enough is enough.”

What this bastard did was so horrible that it sickens me to think that there are those that would try to find loopholes in the system to keep him alive.

He should have received a bullet to the brain pan within a year. That would have cleared him up for a visit to his consulate. Sit his Corpse on the steps of the Mexican consulate with note attached, “Hola amigos, Senor Medellin is ready for his visit. Good Luck, he is a quiet one. Con mucho gusto, Los Estupidos Unidos.

José Medellin:

I am a Mexican through and through!…

“I had a plan, get my GED and go home to join the Mexican military, would have joined here, but I’m a Mexican, not a traitor:- )

I believe Perry told them yesterday to forget it. Good on him if he did.

The Supreme court already ruled once on this, and they ruled correctly.

Texas should proceed and execute this animal next week.

If Obama becomes President with a dem congress, you can expect to see this type of thing, the overturning of our state and national law in favor of international courts and rulings, to become common place.

“I was under the impression that the US Supreme Court all ready ruled that Texas was within its rights.”

They did. Doesn’t seem to matter to the Bush Administration when it comes to MEXICO. Perhaps they care more about the World Court Opinion than the SCOTUS.

Unfortunately, our Kerry-style haircut Governor Kerry has higher aspirations than his present office, and seeking Washington appreciation is what may be going thru his mind on this matter.
