A freedom-focused grassroots organization has issued a nationwide alert about a plan in Congress that would require credit card companies, eBay, Amazon, Google and other companies to report what you buy to the federal government.
FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey said the privacy implications are "breathtaking."
"This is a provision with astonishing reach, and it was slipped into the bill just this week," he said. "Not only does it affect nearly every credit card transaction in America, such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, but the bill specifically targets payment systems like eBay's PayPal, Amazon and Google Checkout," he said.
FreedomWorks said the provision is "hidden deep in Sen. Christopher Dodd's 630-page Senate housing legislation." It was added by the bill's managers without debate and calls for a tracking and reporting system "on nearly every electronic transaction."

If you sell on Ebay this bill will ensure you pay your income taxes. If you buy on line this bill will make sure you pay the sales tax. Plus the little bonus of our friendly government knowing what you are buying. You know, spying on the citizens. I DESPISE Demorats! Bush said he will sign this bill. Looks like the flea markets will make a come back.
Don’t panic. . .they just want a more efficient way to tax you.
Why? 1) So they can adjust tax laws to get more. 2) to track people and make people pay more tax, 3) because they think we are stupid
The Democrat Congress’ Plan for Domestic Surveillence of Americans.
Obviously it’s a way to gague how much more in taxes they could impose.
The President will sign it with a smile.
I knew the answers before I asked my question. The next one is, what to do about it?
Well, pretty much anything can be bought on an electronic card sooo, Let's just go ahead and buy everything that way, one stick of gum, one can of beans, one burrito, one soda, one ink cartridge, one light bulb, one tire at a time. Just drown the bazdards in trillions of transactions. The store owners are going to go berserk on this as the fee per transaction is going to eat them up. They will hammer congress to get this dropped.
In the meantime, one beer, one quarter tank of gas, one comic book, one DVD, one ink pen, one backpack, one loaf of bread, one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one..., one...
bttt
Next the Democrats will decide that the IRS can waterboard you to see if you’ve cheated on your taxes...
You have to remember what’s important to Democrats, like taxes, and what’s not important to Democrats, like national seurity.
Sounds like more business-socialist nonsense...and sounds bipartisan...especially if the GOP Liberal Bush signs it into law.
So much for free enterprise
WHO do you despise?
Our credit card charges will go up to cover this expense.
Somebody heat the tar, I have a feather pillow and a 10 foot long two by four.
Fascist, then.
Fascism is a "partnership" between business and government where the businesses provide the socialist programs & policies at the expense of the consumer, while the government protects any monopoly that that business has.
They need it because they’re the FedGov.
Dear Congress,
I live on Pinot Grigio, ramen-noodle soup, and peanut butter Tiger’s Milk bars. My cats will eat anything from a can. There’s little else to know. Please don’t waste any more time trying to figure out what I buy.”
I certainly do NOT think that the founders called for a Congress for them to be investigating my buying habits.
They are waaaay out of line with any of this waste of taxpayer money.
How I spend money when I have some and how I don’t spend when I have none is nobody’s business but mine.
When I win the Lottery, I will spend more.
Right now, with $4 gas and a fixed income, I spend less.
Who do these elite white tower people think they are, anyway????
I think Congress should explain their spending habits first.
The President will sign it with a smile.”
America SOOOOO needs a line item veto..
Why won’t Bush veto it?
