Dobson, Mohler concerned about Obama
The Towers Online ^ | July 28, 2008 | Michael Foust

Focus on the Family's James Dobson said on his July 21 radio broadcast he is rethinking his previous views on the presidential election and that he "might" endorse Republican John McCain, who the pro-family leader has criticized in the past.

Dobson and guest R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, spent most of the program discussing Democrat Barack Obama's views on abortion and homosexuality before the two men closed the program by talking about McCain. In the past — particularly during the GOP primary — Dobson had said he couldn't support McCain.

Dobson, speaking on his broadcast, said he's "very concerned" about how an Obama presidency would impact the country and that the choice between Obama and McCain has "been the most difficult moral dilemma for me." But Dobson also said there are several significant issues where he and McCain agree.

"We're looking at the most liberal candidate I think to gain a party nomination probably in the history of this country," Mohler said, adding that on some issues, Obama is further to the left than former President Clinton. "... That's what I think most Americans don't understand; many evangelicals don't understand — particularly younger evangelicals. This is a man who has staked out his positions for the last 20 years that is markedly beyond where most Americans believe he is." James Dobson

“As of this moment, I have to take into account that Sen. John McCain has voted pro-life consistently,” Dobson said. “... He says he favors marriage between a man and a woman. He opposes homosexual adoption. He favors smaller government and lower taxes and he seems to understand the Muslim threat, which matters a lot to me. Therefore, I have considered the fact that elections always involve imperfect candidates — there are no perfect human beings —- and you always have to choose between two flawed individuals.... I never thought I would hear myself saying this, but it’s where I am: While I am not endorsing Sen. John McCain, the possibility is there that
I might.” James Dobson

Did Dobson just discover Obama’s record on partial birth abortion?

Dobson is so useless.

From his stands against Thompson to this.

This guy doesn’t seem to have a stable opinion in his soul.

What a moron!

Guess it doesn’t help Obama, that he is a closet Moslem.

Dobson states what EVERY single Conservative should consider. Sitting this election out or voting third party is not an option.

Guess no one really knew who Obama was, so it would have to be recent discovery. AS you know Obama came out of nowhere, has no experience, and no record of achievement , except he worked in a Chicago community once. But as far as Obama's short record goes..yes he is all for killing the unborn.

Dobson is not a critical thinker. One can be religious and still be a critical thinker, but Dobson is not. How one could make it to this point in the campaign and finally come to these conclusions, shows me that he has ignored the facts of this campaign.

How about Obama’s voting record on “POST birth abortion”?

No, this election is going to have very little to do with McCain.

It’s going to be about whether Obama is president or not.

My approach to this election is a vote for McCain is a vote against Obama. That's good enough for me.

“Dobson states what EVERY single Conservative should consider. Sitting this election out or voting third party is not an option.”

What the hell are you talkig about? In February Dobson said

“If these {including McCain] are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life.”

Sorry. Dobson is becoming (or has become) as relevant to politics as Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno are to college football.

He should return to his area of expertise.

He’s stating a truth.

Obama is way too dangerous to be allowed to be in the presidency just because we don’t like McCain.

There was a time I also couldn’t imagine supporting McCain. Dobson equally has realized what is at stake and how much worse the other choice, Hussein Obama would be. There is nothing surprising with reasonable conservatives (and not so reasonable ones... lol) switching to McCain.

James Dobson is an egocentric putz who fancies himself a king maker. I guess he has followers though just like Ron Paul and Al Gore.

I believe Dobson questioned if Fred Thompson was a Christian? Fred didn't attend church on a regular basis...
GEE, I didn't know McCain did? So now that Dobson helped defeat the good candidates and we are stuck with McCain, he's decided to back McCain against Obama.
Dobson is a full fledged JERK!

“Dobson equally has realized what is at stake..”

Great.

How soon efore he “sees the light”again and re-changes his mind?

Going back on his word only damages his reputation and marginalizes his influence on everything.

Amazing. For months many of yall have been screaming at those who are considering not voting for either. The more Obama talks the worse the scenario gets. People start thinking they might have to vote for McCain after all and instead of support and encouragement yall trash them?
