NBCs Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube get the skinny on the abrupt cancellation of Barack Obamas visit to Landstuhl and Ramstein yesterday. The campaign tried to excuse it by claiming that it wouldnt be appropriate to visit while on a campaign-funded portion of his trip, but that wasnt the real problem. When Obama found out he couldnt use the visit as a photo op, he canceled:
One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obamas representatives were told, he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers. In addition, Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obamas visit.
The official said We didnt know why the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him.
In fact, those same rules applied for the CODEL trip to Iraq and Afghanistan. They serve to keep politicians from exploiting military facilities for political reasons, and to ensure that all visitors get treated fairly. Andrea Mitchell, also of NBC, complained of this very issue during the earlier visits with the troops when she told Chris Matthews that the media couldnt get access to Obama when visiting troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This makes the decision track very clear. Obama and his team set up the visits to military installations before going overseas. After seeing how the media got excluded in Iraq and Afghanistan, they decided it wasnt worth traveling to Ramstein and Landstuhl to visit the severely wounded troops because they couldnt bring the campaign and get the photo ops they wanted. Instead, Obama went shopping in Berlin.
As I wrote yesterday, thats certainly a revealing set of priorities for a man who wants to lead these troops as Commander in Chief.
Thanks for that really beautiful Ronald Reagan story! For a moment it relieved the eye twitch I have aquired since following BHO’s great adventure. That is a beautiful image for my mind.
Drudge has the note he put in the wall.
You are so right. It is ALL about him.
That is the most shockingly stupid thing he could have done.
I'm shocked! Surely this isn't the Obamamessiah we know.
Okay, now I’m gonna cry.
Thank you, what a lovely story of a lovely, true gentleman. RIP, Mr. President.
This is worse. The Dixie Chicks dissed the nation for a few cheers in Europe. Obama dissed gravely wounded American heroes, who risked all for the nation. “Theirs was not to reason why, theirs was but to do and die.” These are the people he will have to order into combat if he wins the White House. Obama doesn’t give a hoot for the troops—its all about him.
Just look at what the media has been reduced to by this charlatan.
TEARS IN THIS CHRISTIAN PATRIOT’S EYES!
WE ALL NEED TO PRAY FOR THIS COUNTRY!
SOLI DEO GLORIA!
I join in your prayers for our country.
If I hadn't already decided, that would be enough for me.
Well, it has already started. Andrea Mitchell has “reported” that the “scuttlebutt” is that McCain used his contacts in the Pentagon to put a nix to their messiah’s visit to the troops. Now apparently, the other stations are running the same rumor.
Anything to help their precious Barack.
God bless Ronald Reagan. He certainly blessed us to have had him as our President. How I miss him.
ditto to that.
Amen, Alpha. Our prayers are heard each day. May the Lord save us from an Obama presidency.
I know.
Barack Obama reminds me of a story I once heard about a Senate chaplain. This chaplain was asked if he prayed for the senators, and he responded, "I look at the senators and pray for the country."
SO TRUE!
Amen Alpha! We need to pray for a revival!
Amen! Our Savior have Mercy and Spare us from Obama!
I am waiting for his office to call me back and give the info on how many times he visited our troops at Walter Reed right there in Washington DC........
(no- I am not holding my breath- but I thought the info would sure help dispell any doubts about his sincere intentions....)
