President Obama already? No vote first?

July 22, 2008

STEVE HUNTLEY shuntley.cst@gmail.com

The way Barack Obama is acting, and the way the news media are reacting, it seems like the candidate and his adoring press corps have concluded the election of the Illinois senator as the 44th president of the United States is a foregone conclusion.

Take his trip to Iraq. It was billed as a congressional visit (a couple of other senators tagged along) but, as the Washington Post observed, "in many ways, from the red carpet rolled out for the group at [President Nouri al-Maliki's] residence, to his seat of honor next to Maliki during a brief photo-opportunity -- he is being treated like a visiting head of state."

One can hardly call it a fact-finding trip because Obama declared before leaving U.S. soil his timetable for a 16-month troop withdrawal was all but written in stone. Al-Maliki seemed to get the message, as he was quoted in a German magazine sounding like he endorsed that timetable. The Iraqi government, however, aware of the realities of a precipitous pullout and perhaps prodded by the Bush administration, quickly sought to distance the Iraqi political leader from his own comments.

It's worth noting that Obama visited Afghanistan before Iraq. The implication is pretty clear: Obama is sticking with his program -- get out of Iraq and focus on Afghanistan. There would be no problem with that so long as it didn't endanger the progress achieved in Iraq in the last year by the surge strategy (opposed by Obama) of Gen. David Petraeus, the bravery of U.S. troops, and the hard security and political reconciliation work of the Iraqis.

While Maliki may be talking about a time frame for a U.S. withdrawal, it's not clear that Iraq is ready to stand on its own. Asked about a hard-and-fast withdrawal timetable not based on the facts on the ground, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Fox News Sunday: "I think the consequences could be very dangerous in that regard. . . . I'd worry about any kind of rapid movement out and creating instability where we have stability."

After leaving the Middle East, Obama will travel to Europe this week. At one point his campaign had grandiose plans for him to speak at a huge rally at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. That of course is the location for historic addresses by Presidents Kennedy and Reagan. After German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested it would be inappropriate for an American political candidate not yet president to use this Cold War landmark for an American-style campaign event, Obama backed off. Now his speech is set for Berlin's Siegessaeule, or Victory Column. That has also stirred up a bit of criticism because this is a monument to an 1870 German conquest that would mark the beginning of Germany's 20th century quest for hegemony over Europe.

Is Obama's Germany speech out to win Europeans over to his campaign? Polls indicate they already favor him widely over John McCain. The intended message of the rally is obvious: Elect Obama and the world will love America again.

Certainly, America's mainstream press loves him. The three big network anchors are joining him on his overseas visit, a privilege never enjoyed by mere candidate McCain on his trips. A news monitoring service, the Tyndall Report, found that since June, when Obama locked up the Democratic nomination, ABC, CBS and NBC have devoted 114 minutes of coverage to Obama, more than double the 48 minutes for McCain. Now you know why the mainstream media resent Fox News Channel and its "fair and balanced" slogan.

No doubt about it, Obama is the rock star of U.S. politics and the new face on the stage; thus it's to be expected he'd get a bit more attention (though not double). And all the political tarot cards predict a big Democratic year. Still, there will be an election, and American voters will decide whether they want as commander in chief in these dangerous times a young, untested, inexperienced political phenomenon or a political veteran who is knowledgeable about the ways of a complex world and who has weathered the winds of war.

The reaction after Obami losses the election is going to make the 2000 election look like losing the fourth grade science fair. LOL

I’m investing heavily in Orville Redenbacher

Listening to some news show this past weekend, my wife and I heard the talking head actually refer to him as president Obama. Freudian slip? Or an intentional attempt at subliminal programming?

I get disgusted at his treatment overseas. As if he is the leader of the free world or something.

I’ll go with the latter.

Coupled with the usual voter fraud from the Democrats, this is a carefully orchestrated media coup, to put the Marxist in power.

Subliminal for SURE!
There are no accidents.

Has the world gone MAD or what?!

I’m “clinging to my gun” in Nov., cause it will be UGLY if he wins or loses.

It hasn't yet occurred to the MSM brain trust that after their behavior over the last 7 years, there isn't really a presidency anymore. In the sense that there is nothing they, the Dems, Obama, any of them, could possibly do, that would lead the other half of the country to support them. They burned their bridges, and from here on out there is only naked partisanship. They weren't willing to be Americans unless they ran everything. We aren't willing to follow any of them, on anything, ever again. It doesn't matter how many kisses they blow or how many lies Obama spouts. We know what they really are.

The echo chamber the press has set up to coronate Obama brings to mind the left's disappointment in 1988:
Marc Sandalow ’82, Washington bureau chief for the San Francisco Chronicle, said that when he attended Oberlin during the 1980 election, he “not only didn’t know anyone who voted for Reagan, I didn’t know anyone who knew anyone who voted for Reagan.”

While I don't think that McCain is fit to carry a jar of Reagan's jelly beans, I do think there are a lot of others who don't support Obama still to be heard from in November.

President Obama already? No vote first?

If you take into account the "stay home","pure conservatives" on this board, the continued media clamoring, and the almost guaranteed %80 urban vote...you could almost say that couldn't you? Plus, I've actually seen a couple of these worn by some "upstanding" citizens as well:

When going to Walmart last week there was some guy selling a Obama campaign buttons right in the parking lot.

I know I'm being pessimistic...and I really shouldn't be

The only comfort I have in all of it is knowing that God is in control.

(sung to the tune of “Loves Me Like A Rock”):
And if I was the [presumptive] President
And the newsboys called my name
I’d say “now who do.... who do you think you’re foolin’?”
I got the [presumptive] Presidential seal
Up on my [presumptive] presidential podium
My [typical white] Mama loves me
She loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
And she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the Rock of Ages
My [typical white] Mama loves me....

(apologies to Paul Simon)

As the events of each day unfold (pertaining to the election), I am just horrified and scratching my head in amazement.

I cannot believe the “rock star” status he has and the way the masses scream and CRY over him! They CRY! They act like he is the new Messiah. I’ve seen him refered to as the “new messiah, savior, and the ONE.” If this doesn’t sound like the Book of Revelation, then I don’t know what does.

I fear for this country.....

The MSM has been engaged in a “presidential draft” for years. Like the selection of a 1st round quarterback, although Obama can’t pass, and can’t kick, but can run fast.
So one out of 3 ain’t bad when selecting a commie we “should” vote for.

Algore and Jfn Kerry were foregone conclusions of victory by the MSM, and wolfie blitzer cried when it was obvious the rat he selected and campaigned for wasn’t going to be president.

Be sure to vote and vote often.

Spot on It is frightening that they say “he is the one we have been waiting for”. Sounds exactly like revelations, when and if he is elected we will find out if he is truly the anti-christ. Which I think is not to far off...

This is nothing new. The Dodo Media always elects the Democrat in the months before the election. They believe their own propaganda.
