Who Does Obama Think He Is? (A political messiah, who — unlike Reagan and Kennedy — needn't...)
National Review Online ^ | July 18, 2008 | Charles Krauthammer

A political messiah, who — unlike Reagan and Kennedy — needn't bother to do anything.

Barack Obama wants to speak at the Brandenburg Gate. He figures it would be a nice backdrop. The supporting cast — a cheering audience and a few fainting frauleins — would be a picturesque way to bolster his foreign-policy credentials.

--snip--

After all, in the words of his own slogan, “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” which, translating the royal “we,” means: “I am the one we’ve been waiting for.” Amazingly, he had a quasi-presidential seal with its own Latin inscription affixed to his podium, until general ridicule — it was pointed out that he was not yet president — induced him to take it down.

He lectures us that instead of worrying about immigrants learning English, “you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish” — a language Obama does not speak. He further admonishes us on how “embarrassing” it is that Europeans are multilingual but “we go over to Europe, and all we can say is, ‘merci beaucoup.’ ” Obama speaks no French.

His fluent English does, however, feature many such admonitions, instructions, and improvements. His wife assures us that President Obama will be a stern taskmaster: “Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism . . . that you come out of your isolation. . . . Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?

We are getting to know. Redeemer of our uninvolved, uninformed lives. Lord of the seas. And more...

I agree....when he says “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”, he’s talking about blacks. He does this all the time and thinks we don’t get it. He said in one speech “Our time has come.” He wasn’t talking about democrats, he was talking about blacks.

Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?

The Power of Propaganda.

Outstanding article by Charles Krauthammer. Thanks for posting.

While Obama’s making a fool out of himself, McCain should visit an oil rig, get some oil on him. That would be a great photo-op.

Charles Krauthammer:

... There's nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?

Obama is a three-year senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" nearly 130 times. As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship? Written a single memorable article? His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject: himself.

... For the first few months of the campaign, the question about Obama was: Who is he? The question now is: Who does he think he is?

We are getting to know. Redeemer of our uninvolved, uninformed lives. Lord of the seas. And more. As he said on victory night, his rise marks the moment when "our planet began to heal." As I recall -- I'm no expert on this -- Jesus practiced his healing just on the sick. Obama operates on a larger canvas.

Nailed It!

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

Obama has quickly moved up the ladder with no accomplishments to his name. One of the problems of constantly moving on to the next promotion is that you never get to see the consequences and ramifications of past actions.
Not only is this the definition of a fast-tracker (in any business, at any level), it is also the motivation of the fast-tracker. Get out of the way before the sh*t hits the fan, because you don’t want any of that sh*t on your nice shiny new suit.

What Obambi hasn’t figured out yet is that there isn’t any promotion that will get him out of the Presidency fast enough to avoid getting splattered.

I get cold chills imagining this super-ego in the White House, directing his army of brown shirts to invade homes to check thermostat settings and adherence to light bulb mandates. How about just installing Orwells viewscreens. Very energy friendly, no doubt.

We’re looking at a very inept, ineffectual presidency in which the cult of persinality will supplant any “achivement.” Four years of Odumbo sets up for a real conservative to rise in 2012, the Year of the Jindal.

Sums Obama up...

"His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject: himself."

It would almost be funny, if he wasn't so dangerous!

I know the country is more resilient than many like to think, but why vote for a train wreck when it is avoidable?

Maybe it is the human condition, we forget what Jimmy Carter was about. Maybe our young people really need to feel what 18% interest rates, 12% inflation and 10% unemployment feels like. But I have already been there and I would prefer that we not make those same mistakes again.
