US to open 3.9m acres in Alaska for drilling
Financial Times ^ | July 16, 2008 | Sheila McNulty

The US federal government on Wednesday said it would open 3.9m acres of land in a designated petroleum reserve in Alaska for drilling as a means to help curb rising petrol prices.

“This is welcome news at a time when Americans are paying record prices at the pump,” said C. Stephen Allred, assistant US Secretary for Land and Minerals. “Together with proposed new production from other offshore and onshore areas, these increased supplies will help to stabilise energy costs.’’

The Alaska decision follows one by President George W. Bush on Monday to lift a presidential ban on drilling on the US outer continental shelf, off Florida. That decision still requires Congress to lift a separate ban on the area before the area can be leased for development.

But the Bureau of Land Management, an agency within the US Department of the Interior, said the Alaskan land that will now be offered requires no other approvals and will be up for leasing in the autumn.

“Oil rigs will soon drill Alaska, but today, the Lame duck President drills the Demwits in Congress. ;’)”

I was just on another site where they were talking about
Steve(?) Colbert on Comedy Central. One of the guys commented how he said “Yeah, he’s a lame duck President, except somebody forgot to tell his balls.”

This news is no reason for us to stop putting pressure on the congresscritters to open up ALL the areas were we can drill in the USA..... we need to become fully energy independent.

" Don’t you hear the sound of a herd of green tied lawyers rushing to file a lawsuit to block the decision? "

I just wish we had some very experienced lawyers who are on our side to counter suit them, and hold them up in court in litigation......
Our law suit could be worded as : willful and wanton malicious harming of Americans families, industries, and our national economy of them putting a stranglehold on our national bloodline of oil by their radical environment policies.

Do any of all the US citizens get money from the environmentalist for the suffering they have caused us if there is a law suit taken out against them if we win ?
They should be sued for this very reason, for causing us to suffer, the harm they have caused to our economy, and putting our national security at risk.
I say, file a class action lawsuit on them for $ 10 Billion ( or what ever amount they has caused ).

How much would you think they would owe us from passed years of paying at the pump and home heating for their crap ? 30 years ? can someone come of with a figure of how much we have had to pay for with their environmental polices ? and make it retroactive.....
Come on Conservative lawyers, this is one of the ways we can make a stand and fight the liberals....
Take out a $ 20 Billion class action lawsuit out against these envirowakcos lobby for us average citizens who have suffered over the last 30 years.

" Some enviornut greenie is going to see your comment and brand us as all insensitive cruel anti polar Bear meanies and call PETA "
Not if we have lawyers on our behalf take out a huge class action lawsuit against them... or tie them up with litigation in court to keep them busy.

" The down side is it takes this issue off the table by November? "
That's why we need to keep reminding the public why we are in this mess... got to keep the story going, and don't let them off this easy.

I believe that Bush has not stepped in until now in order to allow the market to work
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
This kind of rational is beyond my grasp. How can anyone think we “allow the market to work” while the government restricts the production and exploration of resources within our borders? Restricting production of oil is tantamount to running out of oil.

I feel I have hurt enough without having to pay over $100.00 to go to the VA hospital. Sorry Charlie, but my chair will not fit in a Yogo. I do believe in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!

It’s beginning to look a lot like popcorn
Ev’rywhere you go;
Take a look in the microwave, it’s popping once again
With lots of salt and butter all aglow.

It’s beginning to look a lot like popcorn,
Popped in distant lands,
But the prettiest sight to see is the big bowl that will be
In your own two hands.

A case of Jolly Time that only costs a dime
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Corn that will pop and will fill to the top
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for sales to start again.

It’s beginning to look a lot like popcorn -
The pop is oh so loud;
There’s a kiosk in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the crowd.

It’s beginning to look a lot like popcorn;
Soon the poppers start,
And the thing that will make corn fling is this ditty that you sing
Right within your heart.

Too bad this isn’t ANWR where a lot of oil is, but at least it is something. Hopefully oil will drop some more today.

“80 miles by 80 miles square. Not terribly large”
True, but with the offset drilling technique that my Uncle Dan helped develop, they can cover a much larger area underground.

No wonder they’re trying to distract us with another tax rebate.

I wonder if they're going to give the rebate to actual taxpayers this time, or just those that are already getting welfare in the form of "earned income credit". Seems that a rebate out to be commensurate with what one has paid in taxes, not who might vote democRAT.

Well, Bush had a big meeting last week with his economic advisory team, and this looks like an immediate result, along with his decision to list the executive order banning offshore drilling.

As part of the annual appropriations bill, the congressional ban ends on September 30, 2008, and I'd imagine that Reid and Pelosi will be hard pressed to renew it for Fiscal Year 2009 under threat of Bush's veto pen.

I'll give the President credit, he's playing the Rats in Congress like the suckers they are.

Didn’t a Federal Judge just nix the Parks & Wildlife (Feds) from doing this in Michigan?

time to line up certain judges against a wall and take back the country.
