Kerrville Texas - A bitter divorce trial slated to begin in a Kerr County courtroom in late August between Joseph and Kimberly Burkett already is making national headlines.
Public interest in the case grew when CBSs chief foreign affairs correspondent, Lara Logan, announced she was pregnant.
The father, she claims, is Joseph Burkett of Kerrville. Their relationship began while Logan was on assignment in Iraq, where Burkett was stationed as a federal contractor, according to news reports.
The relationship reportedly began shortly after Logan broke off another relationship with a fellow journalist last November. Burkett and Logan apparently met years earlier when both worked in Afghanistan.
According to court documents, Joseph Burkett and his wife, Kimberly have been separated since July 2008. Joseph Burkett filed a petition for divorce in January.
During Thursdays hearing, 198th District Judge Karl Prohl issued a gag order requiring Joseph and Kimberly Burkett to remain quiet about the case after a media frenzy involving the National Enquirer, The Washington Post and the front page of the New York Post.
Logan is involved in a divorce of her own from her estranged husband, Jason Siemon. The divorce is expected to be final in about two weeks.
Logan told the Washington Post that she and Burkett plan to wed.
At stake in the Burkett divorce is the couples 3-year-old daughter. Joseph Burkett is seeking to be appointed managing conservator of the child.
Kimberly Burketts attorney Susie Chmielowiec was quoted in The National Enquirer saying, Kimberly believes Lara stole her husband and now theyre trying to steal her little girl.
Chmielowiec denied Thursday that she was interviewed by the tabloid. She testified during a hearing that she was called by someone from the magazine but was asked only to confirm certain information.
In a separate story in The Enquirer, Kimberly Burkett claimed Logan is responsible for wrecking her marriage.
Kimberly, an aspiring model who lives in Fredericksburg, told the grocery-store-shelf tabloid that everything was going well until Joseph went to Iraq, saying he came home in January and everything was OK.
The next morning, Joe told me, Ive met someone. Her name is Lara Logan, she was quoted in The Enquirer.
Logan is considered a rising star in television news and was promoted last week within the CBS organization.
She told the Washington Post that she became pregnant in April, shortly before leaving Baghdad and that the pregnancy was unplanned.
The divorce trial between the Burketts has been set for Aug. 19.
Is there anything in law more stupid then a gag order?
Oh yeah. Protection from Abuse orders.
Whaaaaaaaaaat?!?! PROMOTED??? Right now????
Pure crap. Belongs in the Enquirer.
Time is relative.
This story in the Washington Post a couple of days ago about this was a disgrace. I cannot believe they are providing these people with positive coverage. Just what I wanted to read about while eating breakfast.

LOL - that’s the impression I got as well. ;o)
Shes ‘cute’ in a ‘2am is fast approaching at the tavern’ kind of way. She is a bit long in the tooth if you ask me.
The threshold for attractiveness of women on FR is low.

Pics of a Joe and Kim Burkett with daughter born in 2004 are here. Not to invade their privacy but they’re the ones that posted them online. Anyway, nice family. The CBS bimbette def looks like the homewrecker here, cursory glance at this story.
I think so.
Why do we care what this bimbette from Skagistan is doing?..............
Ah, Liberals and their morals!
Indeed. Seems like she was sleeping around a lot in Iraw without "protection" (and we know the type I'm talking about!). Her comment in the Washington Post story that she didn't think she could get pregnant sounds like that of a 15-year old.
Attention all FReepers
re: “Gag Order”
Let’s not go there.....
