SAG rejects producers' 'final' offer

LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- A group of Hollywood TV and film producers said the Screen Actors Guild declined to accept its final offer for a new contract Thursday.

"Today's meeting demonstrated that SAG's Membership First contingent unreasonably expects to obtain more in these negotiations than directors, writers and other actors obtained during their negotiations," the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said in a statement Thursday.

AMPTP said its final offer included more than $250 million in additional compensation, important new media rights and protection for pension and health benefits.

"The refusal of SAG's Hollywood leadership to accept this offer is the latest in a series of actions by SAG leaders that, in our opinion, puts labor peace at risk," the producers said. "SAG's Hollywood leaders have already pursued a time-consuming, divisive, costly, and unsuccessful anti-(American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) campaign. Any further delay in reaching a reasonable and comprehensive agreement does a disservice to the thousands of working people of our industry who are already being seriously harmed by the ever worsening de facto strike."

AMPTP urged SAG's Hollywood leaders to put its final offer to SAG members for ratification.

"The last thing we need is a long, hot summer of labor strife that puts even more pressure on a badly struggling economy and deprives audiences of the entertainment they clearly desire in such difficult times," the producers said.

We ought to be offering them some moral support, ya know?

Alfred Hitchcock called actors cattle and said they're replaceable.

Heh...I saw the new “Get Smart” movie a few weeks ago, and at some point one of the evil bad guy characters laments their plan will cause the death of the Hollywood actors....

The top bad guys says “Yes. What WILL we do without their razor sharp political opinions?”

I loved it. The face, the tone of voice...it was perfect. Worth the price of admission...:)

Correct. Even though I live in the heart of Hollywood, I have contempt for these overpaid MF’s.

2 weeks ago, I walked past a casting network office near my place. I spoke to an “actor wanna be” who couldn;t get an audition. He later explained that he didn’t want to join SAG because of the fees involved, and because he’s a newbie and “poor”, why does he have to pay this X amt of $$$? (which made sense). The rule says that you can only (accdg to my interpretation) do “acting” jobs w/o SAG permission 3 times in the industry.

That office near my place is run like a prisonyard. A true prick who drives a Kerry Edwards sticker...typical.

It really wasn’t, and I look for that stuff. I saw it as a conservative and loved it, my wife who is somewhat apolitical loved it, and my liberal brother loved it...:)

They make a few jabs, but that comment made it all worthwhile...oh, the contempt...:)

"The last thing we need is a long, hot summer of labor strife that puts even more pressure on a badly struggling economy and deprives audiences of the entertainment they clearly desire in such difficult times,"...

How about the entertainment we are paying for?!

I am sick and tired of the so-called entertainment industry's mediocre to no product which I have to pay for several times over through satellite fees, commercials, etc. As far as I am concerned, the whole industry can strike and starve.

Go ahead. Strike. I shall find my entertainment elsewhere.

SAG, you are doing just what I would want you to do. You are stupid liberals, hurting stupid liberals, who would only have brought out more liberal crud for the world to hate America all the more.

Please help bankrupt Hollywood. Please.

Yeah. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. I wonder if these numbskulls realize just how many people got USED to not watching TV or going to their lousy movies during the LAST strike.

Kinda reminds me of one of the baseball strikes, where the teams brought up the minor league players... and STILL filled the stands. Turns out people wanted to see baseball... not necessarily the “star” players.

I saw something on the news last night about SAG trying strong arm and attempt a hostile takeover of AFTRA. SAG are the crybabies and tantrum throwers of Hollywood. Its filled with liberal actors who think they are part of some holy movement every time someone gets pissed at the money people. They don’t take scabs lightly, if you cross the line during a strike, you will never work in Hollywood again, guaranteed.
