Kansas City Chief's star tight-end Tony Gonzalez performed the Heimlich on a choking diner in Huntington Beach
Ken Hunter, a long-time San Diego Charger's fan, has a new favorite team.
The 45-year-old Huntington Beach resident says he'll now root for the Kansas City Chiefs after the team's star tight-end Tony Gonzalez came to his rescue Thursday night at a local restaurant.
"I'm a permanent member of the Tony Gonzalez fan club," Hunter said Monday.
It all began after a chunk of filet mignon somehow lodged into Hunter's throat while he was dining at Capone's Italian Restaurante on Beach Boulevard.
That's when Gonzalez, who was dining with his wife, 5-week-old daughter and brother, heard a woman scream. He turned around and saw Hunter sitting behind him, gasping for air.

Cool. I’m a KC fan and Tony Gonzalez is the face of the organization.
Capones is lousy I could not swallow that crap either
Just being a Pro Athlete who is married to his child's mother practically makes him a hero, but this really iced the cake. Yay for Tony Gonzalez!
I respect Tony (and that I used his stats to win my fantasy football league a few years ago). He’s one of the few rival players that’s easy to like and much more difficult to dislike.
Finally an NFL player saves someone from choking to death. Usually it’s an NFL player trying to choke someone to death. Things are looking up for the NFL.
Hey, if you have to die from choking, a juicy rare filet is the way to do it! Would that we all might check out with such a taste on our lips...
Yeah, I seem to recall that Mama Cass choked to death on a ham and cheese sandwich.
Big difference.
Well .. he had a ‘commitment’ ceremony .. she says they’re married. Video:

Dang. I wanted to think there was someone out there behaving properly.
Did that on some dood at the Topper Club in Frankfurt, Germany. Afterwords, I did decline the offer for a free meal - after supposedly saving his life. (A MEAL? Come on. How about a PORSCHE - eh?)
BTW, the Heimlich maneuver is different than the CPR maneuver - from behind. Damn near wore out his sternum. Live and learn.
Tony can Heimlich me anytime he wants! ......
I’m assuming you’re a female :)
Wow. Thank you for that information. Funny how a rumor can linger to that degree. I’m glad that’s been explained. I’ve always hated hearing that story about her.
He is a hunk.... ... ;)
Chew your food, Einstein!
Yum!
