Mexico City, Official Residence

The Presidency reported that President Felipe Calderón met Arizona Senator John McCain, who will be nominated as the US Republican Presidential Candidate in September, at the official Los Pinos residence today.

The President remarked that Mexico trusts the United States will value the priority given to bilateral work on migration, trade, development, regional competitiveness and security as the means for promoting the well-being of both societies. President Calderón confirmed his government’s intention of continuing to collaborate on all issues of common interest, including the prevention of and response to natural disasters and pandemics, food security and environmental protection. The two exchanged points on view on key issues on the regional and global agenda. In this respect, President Calderón underlined the importance of maintaining a close relationship between Latin America and the United States.

For his part, Senator McCain highlighted the importance of the partnership between Mexico and the United States in promoting the prosperity and security of all North American communities. He declared that one of his priorities has always been to promote a closer relationship with Mexico. He also stressed the country’s long shared history and the importance of the enormous contributions Mexicans in the United States have made to the economic, cultural and social spheres.

Senator McCain acknowledged President Calderón’s leadership since the beginning of his administration in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking and expressed his support for US cooperation, including the Merida Initiative, in order to meet these challenges President Felipe Calderón added that regardless of who is elected, the next US president will have Mexico’s cooperation for developing a more prosperous, competitive region, as well as strengthening democracy and human rights.

Senator McCain repeated his support for the bilateral trade relationship created by the US Free Trade Agreement and the efforts by both countries to deal with the security issues that affect the common border and promote the development and modernization of infrastructure in this area.

During the meeting, the President declared that the Mexican Government respects the decisions of the US people and its internal processes. He stated that he will pay close attention to the development of the electoral process in the United States as well as to the proposals and actions of each of the Presidential candidates in that country.

Lastly, the President of Mexico and Senator McCain discussed several aspects of the American regional agenda and global issues of mutual interest.

I can’t stand McCain. I am tired of his Mexico pandering.

He will ruin this country just like Obama will.

I have a close enough relationship with mexico... neighbors have chickens running in their yard, sheets and clothing hanging on the fences, jacked up cars in their yard, a run down motor home used as living...the guy knocking on my door selling home made tamales, another running around selling flats of “huevos”, a man pushing a pop sicle cart..another selling bed pillows strung on a long stick hung over their shoulders.. it never ends....

If we move enough US companies to Mexico, it will stop the illegal immigration.......to the US, anyway.

I wonder what in the hell this guy is thinking to make such a statement?

There is no prosperity to be had by aligning ourselves with Mexico...a failed state even after a number of revolutions.

There is certainly no security unless massive corruption in government is eliminated.

Why does he think most of his beloved illegal aliens are trying to get the hell out of there??!!!!

Instead of importing Mexico's poverty, we should be exporting America's prosperity. Start by changing their property laws, let anybody from anywhere buy land everywhere in their country. The rich gringos (that would be us) would buy up all of the best land, and develop it. That would create jobs. And because Americans, unless they're Democrats, don't tolerate corruption, the government of Mexico would begin to clean itself. The poor people today could work and save and start their own business. They could build schools, and infrastructure.
Or we could just keep importing uneducated cheap labor and pay them slave wages, and let our country become as rotten as Mexico.

A couple of years ago our neighborhood was invaded by all this plus endless cards for tree trimming, house cleaning, etc. They don’t just leave the cards, they stick them in the door, ring the doorbell and walk off. I get to the door and they are walking down our driveway on the way to the next house. Peeves me off to no end. I have gotten to the point that when my doobell rings at least 5 times a day with these people I answer it screaming at them.
I am sure I am not the only one. You are right, I have had enough of Mexico and it’s citizens.

I may be hated on FR for this, but I’d much rather send my money to a capitalist mexico than to a communist china for like-quality goods.

Yet many goods coming from (through) Mexico are produced in China.
Money to Mexico is just encouraging more reliance on Communist China.

I second that!

Furthermore, Mexico (and having a stable, prosperous Mexico) actually is crucial to our security. Calderon is genuine trying to deal with the massive corruption and disorder, ranging from having certain cities run by drug terrorists to plain old financial hanky panky among the bureaucrats. He also has to deal with heavily left-wing unions and a small ultra-wealthy class that has gotten where it is thanks to the state and doesn't want things to change.

In addition, people from other parts of Latin America (ranging from economic refugees to Chavez' infiltration forces) are a real problem on Mexico's southern border. Mexico represents a buffer to us, and yesterday McCain discussed the importance of keeping Mexico's northern border tight, as well.

But of course the usual "hate Mexico" crowd doesn't want to hear that.

Another example of McCain talking nonsense. Mexico is an enemy nation. They are laughing at us for giving perks to the illegal aliens - riffraff or worse that Mexico wants to dump on us.
