Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.
The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.
This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.
The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age.
It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives".
The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships."
It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: "blackie", "Pakis", "those people" or "they smell".

I think I remember the name of the restaurant with that sign - it was "Rosie O'Grady's", not to be confused with the restaurant in New York or elsewhere by the same name. Apparently, Rosie was popular in several states.
food is not a race

I understand getting past hamburger helper, but properly cooked Lima Beans?
There is no such thing.
Thanks for sharing.
Alas, it isn’t as I don’t have any sisters :(
My kids don’t like a lot of white people food,...
and they’re white.
What does that make them?
What idiocy....
Lima beans are permitted in my house, hamburger helper is NOT.
About 6 months or so ago we were in the supermarket and the HH was on sale and my daughter daid, “hey mommy, this is on sale and all we have to do is add meat to it.” The one she had picked out was the stroganoff.
Mind you, she is 10 (was 9 at the time of this demonstration) and I asked her how do we make stroganoff. And she recited to me what we put in it -— meat, onions, mushrooms, gravy, beer and sour cream and then put it on noodles. I then asked her why should we buy that box and meat, when we already had all of the ingedients at home.
She looked at me a minute, put the box back on the shelf and said, You’re right. Needless to say I fixed stroganoff for dinner that night :)
ROFLMSS!!!!!!!!!
What a great comeback!
I count my lucky stars that my daughter is not a picky eater and will eat practically anything. She does go in spurts about some things, but the one that cracks me up the most is tomatoes. She insists she doesn’t like them, but wants spaghetti and meatballs, and pizza, and chili, and tacos, and salsa and ketchup, etc -—— “but that’s different mommmmmmmmm”
I’ve got one of each.
One will eat anything (but tofu).
One will eat next to nothing.
One in the middle.
Yeah, but not how they mean it.
It seems to me the whole world seems like it has entered the Twilight Zone. I find myself shaking my head in disbelief more than ever lately.
I do not envy you.
My attitude is that as long as she is willing to try something, if she doesn’t like it I won’t make her eat it.
My parents were pretty uch that way, except when it came to liver and over cooked veggies, those I had to eat. OTOH, if my brother decided he didn’t like something or wouldn’t eat it, my mother would fix something he liked. BTW, he liked liver and overcooked veggies :)
Thank you for contributing a thoughtful post and finally advancing the discourse.
No, this report is not a joke, and anyone who has been paying attention to our Mother Country, will not in the least be surprised by this development.
Frankly, I find it disconcerting that so many on a board that champions Conservatism and Western Civilization, fail to see this foreshadowing as our future. It will be a regretful reminder, rather than a joke, once we are part of the new Caliphate, or Greater Hispaniola.
What about haggis?
How pre-school workers will can read a 366-page guide for staff...
Free Monarchy just doesn’t seem to work
If this isn’t Orwellian 1984, I dunno what is!
