ABC News Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama told reporters he was puzzled by the press coverage he received on Thursday when he held two separate press conferences to explain his plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.
On Thursday in Fargo, N.D,, Obama told reporters in a morning press conference that he will continue to refine his plan to withdraw all U.S. combat troops from Iraq in 16 months.
Reporters immediately jumped on the comments that showed that Obamas expressed openness to adjust his long-held 16-month withdrawal plans was at odds with the stance that he took during the primary campaign.
At his second hastily called press availability Thursday, Sen. Obama insinuated that the McCain campaign had primed the press and were to blame for the interpretation of his position.
En route to a speech in St Louis today, the Senator told reporters on his plane that the news cycle his comments caused was perplexing.
I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off by what I thought was a pretty innocuous statement, which is that I am absolutely committed to ending the war, he said.
Obama reiterated his commitment to his withdraw plan again. I will call my joint chiefs of staff and give them an assignment and that is to end the war, he said. I think whats important is to understand the difference between strategy and tactics. I have always believed that our invasion of Iraq was a strategic blunder.

Why in the Hell isn't McCain and the GOP going after Obama? If Lee Atwater was still around, Obama would be toast already. Well, we wouldn't want to offend the liberals by actually making the race difficult for Obama, would we?

Obama will give his generals the strategic mission to lose the war, then allow them to formulate the exact tactics to do so.

I mean, one could have a ‘stratagem’ for survival and then, of course, apply tactics to that end — but the distinction still seams more of a verbal convention.

If Lee Atwater was around McCain would have fired him for being too “mean spirited and divisive”.

Strategy is what you do to make contact with the enemy. Tactics are what you execute once that contact is made.

I wonder if he even knows what the difference is between [strategy and tactics]. Strategy is to increase the size and power of government, so as to achieve the goal of Socialist Utopia? Tactics is to get elected by any means necessary?

NOW HES BLAMING THE MEDIA FOR HIS FLIP-FLOPPING!!! When are the charges of racism in the media going to start flying around? The media has to be brought to heel - YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO CRITICIZE THE ANOINTED ONE.

July 5, 2008, 4:54 pm .... Obama Refines the Blame on Iraq Miscue
************************************EXCERPT***********************
By Jeff Zeleny
ST. LOUIS Two days ago, Senator Barack Obama said he had not been clear enough in explaining his Iraq policy. Today, there was a different rationale.
The confusion was not his fault, Mr. Obama said, but rather the medias for seizing on three words he uttered in Fargo, N.D., when he suggested he would be open to refine my policies on Iraq.
I was surprised by how finely calibrated every single word was measured, he said, speaking to reporters as he flew here from Montana.
Mr. Obama touched off a stir on Thursday when he said he would consult American military commanders in Iraq before saying whether he would continue to pursue a proposed timetable of withdrawing combat troops within 16 months of taking office. A few hours later, he took the rare step of calling a second news conference to reiterate his commitment to end the war.
