Obama seen as a Muslim overseas
American Thinker ^ | June 20, 2008 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 07/02/2008 7:39:59 AM PDT by T Ruth

The Obama campaign faces a burgeoning problem: the tendency of certain highly-placed Muslims overseas to declare that he is of their faith. The latest to do so is Libya's Qadhafi, in remarks made marking the anniversary of the U.S. air raid on Libya. MEMRI provides this transcript (hat tip: Big Dog)

There are elections in America now. Along came a black citizen of Kenyan African origins, a Muslim, who had studied in an Islamic school in Indonesia. His name is Obama. All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man. They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency.

We still hope that this black man will take pride in his African and Islamic identity, and in his faith, and that [he will know] that he has rights in America, and that he will change America from evil to good, and that America will establish relations that will serve it well with other peoples, especially the Arabs.

Americans believe that Barack Obama has every right to become a Christian as an adult and proclaim his faith in Jesus Christ. Americans understand that true religious identity depends on the faith one accepts. But we deceive ourselves if we believe the rest of the world thinks this way.

The Muslim world sees it differently. A baby born to a Muslim father is a Muslim. One who leaves Islam for another faith is an apostate. It's scriptural.

Facts are stubborn things.

The fact that many in the Muslim world would see a hypothetical President Obama as one of them, or possibly as an apostate, has to affect his ability to be effective. Maybe it would be an advantage, but who knows? It is hard for Westerner to imagine all the complexities this situation would create if Barack Obama occupies the Oval office.

This subject is a legitimate topic of discussion for the presidential campaign. How does the biographical fact of a Muslim father (and step-father) influence the candidate's ability to be effective as president? I would like to hear many Muslim voices on this question, as well as Senator Obama's views on the varying concept of religion, and what he might say to a Muslin religious authroity, if he ever discusses the question of his faith. Perhaps that might happen when he has his promised meeting with Muslim states at the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The campaign has so far been rather effective at suppressing discussion of any of the complexities of Barack Obama's connection to the faith of his father. To even broach the subject is to be branded a smear artist, to have "emails" invoked as cyber boogeymen, and to be an "Islamophobe."

Obama has been celebrated as a man who repair America's image overseas. But images are tricky things, and managing them overseas may be impossible.

wrong. there’s no acceptance step. Once you are born to a muslim male you are muslim by birthright. That’s the big problem with their military/religious/cultural doctrine. You are born into servitude. To allah (and his manifestation at the local mosque). The patriarch-centricity of Islam is not an accident. It’s how they expand their empire.

So if your Father was a Muslim, then you are a Muslim? I believe the Jewish Faith states that if your Mother was Jewish, then you are Jewish?/Just Asking - seoul62.......

This presents a dilemma for the MSM, and here is why:

1) Foreigners view Osama Yomama Obama as a Mooselim.

2) Foreigners are ALWAYS smarter than Americans, because America is the devil.

The MSM will be unable to reconcile foreigners (who are ALWAYS right) believing that Obama is a Muslim (which is unpossible, because, because, well just because!)

It is the left’s equivalent of dividing by zero.

Actually I think he pretty much is what he appears to be - an unsure sweet little boy whose capable of developing into anything once fully matured and in full ascendancy.

What an interesting thought. Africans never ascend to power in their advancing years. All leaders in Africa become leaders in their youth. We don’t operate that way as a rule. We select leaders from our experienced ranks. It’s obvious why Africans take their leaders from youth. It’s a strongman or a deeply ingrained nepotistic world. The problem with this is you don’t know what you are getting. Robert Mugabe was a champion of the poseur socialists in England once upon a time. They marched for his acedendancy.

They all start out cuddly cute just like our boy.

I wonder what Mr. Qadhafi meant with this statement:

All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa . . . may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency.

Is this why Mr. Obama is raising so much money?

Will anyone look into this before the election?

Americans believe that Barack Obama has every right to become a Christian as an adult and proclaim his faith in Jesus Christ.

My problem is that his sitting for 20-years in a church with a racist, America-hating pastor would not result in becoming any type of Christian that I'm aware of. Christ preached love, forgiveness and redemption not the type of hatred and so-called Black liberation theology that Obama was exposed to and down-deep probably adopted.

His latest proclaimation on ‘Faith Based Initiatives’ under his administration supports liberation theology.
The left wants to keep religion out of government, but wants government to control religion.

” This presents a dilemma for the MSM, and here is why:”

Quite a dilemma indeed…How will the Messiah spin his way out of ‘foreign’ opinion? It’s easy to accuse Americans of hate-mongering, but to accuse people of other countries and cultures is just…un-democRAT!

Somebody said something interesting to me the other day. They thought Obama and the Congress would pass laws abolishing the non-profit taxable status of churchs and the like. He wants to tax the church as a means of controlling it.

no acceptance for one born to a muslim dad or more accurately, into a muslim society. You can’t establish paternity with the ease of a chromosome test in the old world. The easiest way to get uniformity of thought is to declare it the default religion. Now for the poor souls outside the curtain caught up in the maw, yes sure, convert or feel the sword on your neck. If you are unfortunate to be taken captive by their true adherents, you better say your prayers.

great motto. educators will tell you 90% of what you learn happens in the first 3 years of grammar school. Everything after that is reinforcement. to say dude doesn’t or wasn’t impacted by going to muslim school in grades 1-3 is just another in a long list of convenient denials going on here.

It is claimed Ann Dunham was an athiest. She was certainly an America hater. Obama says in his book that he overheard her, in an argument with LOLO, say in regard to Americans, “Those are not my people”.
She probably converted to Muslim..after all she married TWO of them. She must have approved of the ‘religion’.
Isn’t this a fine prospect for POTUS?
Parents were America haters, partially raised in a Muslim country sh*tehole...

“People get the government they deserve.” Joseph deMaistre.

And when people become THIS freaking STUPID and inattentive to their freedoms, THIS is the candidate they deserve.

Hurry before some diversity loving (RIGHT!) Obamaniac at YouTube pulls it.

Funny you should mention that. This morning on CSpan a lady from Texas called in complaining about the mega churches taking up prime real estates (built along interstates and using public infrastructure, water, electricity, etc.) that could be used by tax paying businesses....

I sense a trend.
