Follow The Money: McCain to Pick Mitt Romney As Running Mate
Co-ed Magazine ^ | July 1, 2008 | Andrew

Posted on 07/01/2008 4:56:30 PM PDT by Plutarch

Sen. John McCain will choose businessman and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney as Vice President, in his bid for the White House this November, a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.

Though others were close in the running, the choice ultimately came down to the money–not the man. According to our source, the campaign narrowed their Vice Presidential options to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, the two most successful opponents of McCain in the bid for the Republican nomination. But despite Huckabee’s sway with far Right conservatives and evangelical voters, Romney packs the deepest fund-raising pockets.

As a successful businessman and prominent member of the staggeringly wealthy Mormon community, Romney brings with him the potential to raise “upwards of $60 million in 30 to 60 days, whereas Huckabee could only raise $10 to $15 million,” says our source.

McCain needs those types of numbers to be competitive with the money-sponge that is the Obama campaign, which has 1.7 million individual donors–as well as the Hollywood machine–and is ringing-out advertising dollars across the country, saturating voters in his ‘50 State Strategy‘ to win the White House.

“How the hell did the publisher of the ‘Top 20 Side-Boobs of All Time‘ get this scoop,” you must be asking yourself, right now. (We were asking ourselves the same question.) And here’s the answer: It’s all part of the McCain campaign’s plan to directly target college-age voters, in an attempt to sway them away from Sen. Obama, says our source.

Additionally, the campaign wants to solidify their ticket far in advance of the Obama campaign making their VP choice, in order to get a “head start” on the surge in fund-raising they expect to receive with the announcement of Romney as the Republican VP pick.

So next time two dudes in suits knock on your door, they might want more than to proselytize about the Book of Mormon…

UPDATE: We understand better than anyone how crazy it seems that we got this story first, so a healthy level of skepticism is expected. But we stand by the accuracy of our reporting on this, and will give you as many new details as possible in the coming days–including the name of our source, if we can.

That’s a defense? Because Weld screwed up (sucked up) Mitt is now a NRA stalwart?

Thanks, the more smiles the merrier...

But what about his record?

I assume you looked past just the last couple of years?

He has a very good record, even with the State of Massachusetts.

Over the last few years (ironically when he was planning his run) yes he did...

Before that...

Not so much...

Changes of convenience and expediency do not instill long term confidence in me.

I have no issue with the man,he is a success and has good personal character. However his politics have been all over the place on a variety of issues, many of great concern to Conservatives. I believe in long term consistency, not convenience, it is what determines the soul of a man's politics, where it comes from and where it may go in the future. Given the compromises already made since Reagan left office, I did not and do not want to take a risk on one who so recently "saw the light" especially if I do not fully trust the conversion and see evidence that it is not complete, or worse, real...

Why not, it is the same thing...

I believe in conserving total effort for real battles against able opponents, not salesmen, (excuse me, sales people...)..

Rumor: McCain Has Chosen Romney As VP

Actually, it seems the McCain campaign has thrown this story out there to gauge the response ... probably from conservatives.

"GOP federal office — in MA? Are you kidding me right now?"

Yes. Where are all those Republicans your savior helped elect ?

"How about you telling us which RINO (as you refer to all of them correct?)had a legitimate shot at it, mmmkay?"

No, no. You tell me. Since you claim to be the big expert on everything Massachusetts, Lovey.

"Healy never had a prayer, and it really makes no difference if Romney actually campaigned with her or not. She was also the former chair of the MA GOP, with an extremely wealthy husband who understood the reason why she was picked for Ltgov in the first place. She, by the way, was the one who lobbied Romney to run in MA."

Of course, Healey (spelled with an "e", Lovey) never had a shot. Exactly as it was intended. Couldn't have someone like Jim Rappaport have a go. If he had been Lt Governor, we'd have had a competitive candidate. But as I said, *omney was never going to allow that.

"The day Tim Murray secured the Ltgov party nomination was the day Deval Patrick won the seat. It really is that simple."

Nope, not really. Deval could've chosen Basil Bumblef*ck from Woods Hole and he would've won. There was never going to be a competitive election for Governor in 2006. It was a coronation, and Queen Mitt presided over the passing of the baton to his favorite rodent party.

"[whine]But...but... he abandoned the GOP....even Weld wouldn’t have done that..[/whine]"

Waah. Waah. OLD news. 2004. You didn't happen to mention the date and he FAILED 100%. He not only didn't get a single Republican elected, he LOST seats. Again, why do you continuously refuse to state was is obvious to all and that this man did NOTHING for the state party. He lost big and went running away to whore after the Presidency. He left a moribund party to a hapless Lieutenant who couldn't even (on two tries !) get elected to a single pissant Beverly-Essex House seat (despite "all dat money"). Amazing.

"Yeah, Weld left us with the hapless Celluci and equally pathetic Swift. Score — what a guy."

If you think I like Weld, you're in for a shock. I merely state he finished the job of killing the state party. At least Weld left a VIABLE successor. *omney didn't even have the common courtesy to do that.

"How about you go find an easier state for you to school others on, like Arkansas for instance. Start small and work your way up to the big leagues."

Thanks. I already know about Arkansas. Would you like a lecture on it ? Huckster did to that state what *omney did to yours, except he had a lot longer to do it. That's the problem when you elevate Trojan Horses for the Democrat party and elect them as Republicans.

"You know nothing about my state. Run along now junior."

Sounds like your diaper needs changing. You just got schooled, lovebuggers. You want your butt handed to you again, or do you give up ?

No, if the MA GOP consulted me, it would actually win elections. I’d start by clearing out the dead wood, namely sycophants like yourself. :-)

"Oh ok, I see now."

No, not even close.

"It’s ______ fault that Thompson blew it badly by waiting so long to enter the race."

He entered it at the precise time. Declaring 10 years ahead of time doesn't impress me or others much.

"Coulter (who is a conservative by the way, you can paint her anything you would like, but she is so deal with it),"

Coulter was a *omney groupie. I will question absolutely the credentials of somebody who puts looks ahead of ideology. DEAL with it.

"I actually liked Thompson a great deal and was extremely disappointed he played the race the way he did (gosh, I hope you weren’t consulting his campaign...)."

No, what's interesting is how the RINO Establishment was deliberately against him and so was the media that also deliberately ignored his campaign. He ran his campaign in an honorable way, perhaps the most honorable I've seen in years. He didn't debase himself by pandering to the worst elements, he was a giant in the debates, and he REFUSED to whore after the office like a bitch in a heat like *omney, Huckster and the other midgets (save Duncan Hunter) did. The 2008 GOP Presidential primary was a Fellinesque sideshow.

"Coulter I take in small doses, but she called Romney back in 2006 (when the pickins weren’t slim). Of course anyone who picked Romney is a RINO, you being the authority on them and all."

Anyone who did pick *omney is indeed a RINO or just willfully stupid.

I hope they're seeing it and if he is stupid enough to pick someone so toxic, he deserves to lose.

Since ECONOMY is the BIGGEST ISSUE in 2008, (unless you are an Ostrich with head in the sand) who better than Romney in 2008?

Economy biggest issue ? The invasion and international terrorism seem a smidge higher in importance. BTW, you do know *omney pushed through the budget-busting Socialist health care in MA, don't you ? The man has little grasp of any issue, let alone economics (aside from helping elect rodents, for which he scores an A+).

Here's his hairness signing off on Socialism:

"Hey, Sally, these suckers actually think I'm a Conservative ! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!"

Pushing tax payer supported anything I am against. We agree there. That includes the purported MA Healthcare, about which I plead much ignorance.

However people are hurting bad out there...HALF Million jobs lost in 2008 so far, Trillions in House Value dissipated,
Bankruptcies galore...on and on.

IMHO what is needed is someone who has knowledge of how to boost the economic activity. I believe Romney has the best resume on this matter.

He’s a big government, pro-Socialist type of guy. He’s a “cure” worse than the disease. We need a real accomplished leader to serve as McCain’s VP, and that’s Governor Mark Sanford. The big question here is whether McCain will go balls-to-the-walls to keep and proliferate all-across-the-board tax cuts and deregulations. I have my doubts.
