Democrats pave the road to ruin
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | July 1, 2008 | Editorial

Posted on 07/01/2008 10:10:28 AM PDT by Graybeard58

Four times last month, pollsters gauged voters' opinion of the Democratic-run Congress and four times they came back showing almost 3 in 4 Americans disapproving of its performance. But if voters think they hate Congress now, just wait until next January when, as expected, they twin a Democratic Congress with a Democratic president who today is Congress' most liberal member.

Besides ensuring the continued crippling increases in energy prices that will leave tens of millions of Americans shivering in their homes for many winters to come while guaranteeing the death of millions of jobs and a more rapid decline in Americans' standard of living, Democrats intend to pursue their socialist utopia with even more deficit spending, a record tax increase and wholesale disincentives to work, invest and save.

Their 2009 budget, which narrowly passed last month, raises federal spending to a record $3.1 trillion. But it does nothing to address the projected deficit that some say could reach a half-trillion dollars; boosts federal spending by an average of almost $130 billion annually over the next five years; and projects another half-trillion in phantom revenues by 2014.

Further, it forecasts a small budget surplus by 2012 by pretending the war against Islamic terrorism will be over by Dec. 31, 2009; inflicting the Alternative Minimum Tax on more than 20 million middle-class Americans; and allowing the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts on income-tax rates, capital gains and dividend income expire in 2010, which would mean a record tax increase of nearly $3 trillion by 2018 and a resumption of the Democrats' punitive assault on Americans' successes and savings.

Based on calculations of a number of public and private agencies, the 116 million taxpayers will see an average increase of $1,800 in their annual tax bill come 2011, which does not account for anything the Democrats might do in the interim. For 48 million couples, the spike will total $3,000; even the elderly ($2,200) and the poor ($1,600) will pay more. Meanwhile, the percentage of income taxes paid by the top 1 percent will fall from 60 to 57. The average tax increase for Connecticut families is estimated at $4,300.

At the same time, the Democrats propose to do nothing about the $52 trillion in unfunded spending over the next 50 years in Social Security and Medicare.

During their 12 years at the helm, Republicans were poor stewards of the public treasury. But giving the keys to government to the Democrats would spell certain fiscal and economic disaster.

A good example of huge spending increases is the $150 Billion that Obama wants to “invest” in green energy programs. Where the heck is he going to get that kind of money in a time of rising deficits? Assuming that Dems. even care about a balanced budget anymore?

Which is exactly what the d'RATS want. They want the government to collapse of it's own weight and then they can start the Socialist States of America on the ashes of what was the United States of America.

I’ve always noticed in Democrat areas, instead of placing the responsibility for a failed economy where it belongs, the libs always jump up and down wanting MORE taxes and entitlements.

Just look at Michigan. They beat the rest of the US to recession by several years, and they just keep voting Democrats in to keep the economy there dead.

“During their 12 years at the helm, Republicans were poor stewards of the public treasury. But giving the keys to government to the Democrats would spell certain fiscal and economic disaster.”

While I agree that Demoncratic policies would theoretically only make things worse, it is assuming that anything at all would be done. If the congress we have now is any indication of things to come, they are for the most part just like many of the Republicans... do nothing while collecting a paycheck, kickbacks, and enjoying all the perks power brings. It’s having power for the sake of it, not because they intend to do anything with it. After all, doing something means taking responsibility for the outcome, and there don’t seem to be too many in congress who are willing to step up to the plate.

Meanwhile, we all get hosed and will do so until another Ronald Reagan comes along who is willing to stand up for us. Until then, it’s going to be a real bumpy ride.

Voters need to see the RNC, ole John himself, to sound the call and warning patiently and accurately to expose this naif’s liberal socialist pacifist extremist. Hugh Hewitt tried it with a new book to our college kids. Take a look. But, but, it will not be clear enough for ADULT voters to see how Dems want to undermine our entire system. We must show, the Pubs must show, at least 4-5 reasons why socialist pacifism would destroy capitalism, raise personal and corporate taxes so high, that free enterprise would plunge us into an economy like The Chad. Unless voters learn how this Party and this new Messiah would take us even far from the Kennedy years , or the Reagan years, they will believe the malarky and spin that the MSM gives them and zombie like vote to destroy our nation.

“the demon-crat driven congress has the worst ratings ever!”

dontcha know that everything is george bush’s fault and that all will be paradise when the presidency and both houses, and more governorships are in the hands of the loving, compassionate, brilliant democrats who are going to make everything better while there are less evil republicans around to poison the well?

/sarcasm off/

Look, I run a business. I have employees that will not grasp economic reality even when I show them on charts! The ones whom are interesed in preserving wealth are doing something about it and there wages are increasing. The rest talk about how shitty there life is when there neighbor is losing there house, they see red lights on the news about the economy etc but they are encapsulated by good management. Washington is encapsulated as well but has horrible management (I give the Prez and Cheney some credit but both rhinos and dems in general act much like spoiled kids).

Truth is, our nation will not self-correct without further pain and that is a shame. We have not evolved much in ten thousand years of documented history, that’s for sure.
