WASHINGTON Politically speaking, Susan Speakman is a different kind of evangelical.
Mrs. Speakman, 59, a pastor and educator at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville, Pa., an activist evangelical church southwest of Pittsburgh, backs Senator Barack Obama in the presidential race. Along with her 23-year-old son, Stephen, she supports Mr. Obama because of his stands on the Iraq war and matters of social justice. The two of them plan to spread the word in their community and beyond.
What caught my attention early on was his comment that we dont want red states and blue states, but we want to find reconciliation and rapprochement with folks, said Mrs. Speakman, who changed her party affiliation to Democratic from Republican this year to vote for Mr. Obama in the Pennsylvania primary. I really object to the other approach divide and conquer, isolate and demonize the opposition. I try to engage the other side and try to find ways we can bring the values of the kingdom of God into the experience of humanity.

my point was about the similar political views of evangelicals for obama and naral catholics (”social justice” trumps any other moral issue, including murder of the unborn), not about religious doctrine
Call social justice what is to keep it in perspective:
Liberation Theology = Christian Communism = Apostate Heresy
God calls His people individually to be personally responsible and just by being accountable to Him, not the State.
billy graham met with mccain,
but did not endorse him.
thanks, bill.
A generation or two ago, I'd guess around 80% of Evangelicals voted Democrat. This is because back then most Evangelicals lived in the South, and "The Solid South" still detested "The Party Of Lincoln". Things have changed since then, but there are still plenty of Southerners - especially the oldest ones - who haven't seen the light, politically speaking, that most of their neighbors have.
And back then, a similar proportion of Catholics reflexively voted Democrat as well. And similarly today, a significant percentage (larger than "20-30%" I'd guess) of them still have not seen the light as well.
Hey, even I voted for a Dem or two on the state level back in the early 80s!
Hey, even I voted for a Dem or two on the state level back in the early 80s!
I voted for one democrat in my life, Sam Nunn, but that was back when he was a conservative democrat.
Bethany is NOT a member of the PCA Churches (the CONSERVATIVE Presbyterian Churches.....must be PC USA.....the liberals.)
Actually, if you check out the website of the Revvum Wright’s black power church you will find much that sounds like Christianity and “family values.” The devil (and his minions on the political Left) know it is easier to sell lies when they are mingled and camouflaged with truth, than it is to peddle straight hatred and undiluted Marxism. The mainstream churches have been permeated and infiltrated with false doctrine. Tares among the wheat.
What kind of Evangelical can be wooed by a leftist Like Obama that supports abortion, homosexual agendas, anti-American sentiment, and doesn’t belong to any Christian Church and was Moslem for over 24 years.
Really? As one who posted on many of those threads for the past 8 years relating to the GOP and Bush engaging in orgies of spending and govt expansion I still bitterly recall how they excused such antics and even saw it as a fulfillment of christian conservatism and thus a positive. IMHO big govt evangelicals are no more followers of Christ than those “religious” NARAL nags who claim the Bible supports reproductive rights.
And which “evangelicals” are listening? Certainly not the Christians I know....
The Dem party and the Dem media tried this scam in 2006. They drag out phony pro abortion frauds and call them the Born again crowd. he NY Slimes is a ridiculous Obama newsletter.
Sure they have so much in common /s
This is like Bill Clinton calling taxes our “fair share”.
The left is busy redefining the word evangelical.
Many of us who identified with the traditional evangelical position are now searching for a new label...the old one doesn't fit anymore.
Unborn? If that was all, Obama would just be another run-of-the-mill Liberal.
Obama ALSO thinks that those who allow babies who are not yet dead following abortion to die; to NOT be prosecuted.
That’s murder folks...and Obama thinks it’s O.K.
It’s not JUST the unborn for him.
He’s waaaay beyond that...
Hey Barakypoo, get out your five pound Bible and we’ll flock to you! Borrow Bill’s, he’s got one.
If you see abortion as equal to anti-abortion, that is your right, as skewed as it is.
Big government is when the court decided to overturn the laws in the vast majority of states and mandate abortion on demand.
Absolutely correct. He wants all states to have black leadership.
Many of these black churches whore themselves out for MAMMON. They vote for whichever side will dole out more public money.
